sdd Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 I started out through the Savingsbarn.com site. As this was my first time on Priceline I was timid and bid for only 1 night for 1 room. I had originally bid $85 for Disney area - nothing found but got the message if I increase by $22 I could try again. So I won the 1st room for $102. Thilled when I won Gaylord - but now the glitch - I need 2 rooms for 3 nights. Afraid I might get another resort I proceeded cautiously and bid for the same night but know a little wiser. Bid $85 for Disney area - got the same message but this time declined. Added Kissimmee area and upped the bid to $95 - may have been able to go less but I had seen the winning bids posted here for $95 so stuck with that. Thrilled again to win Gaylord - so I know had my 2 rooms for 1 night - then I added the extra night on the end to make 1 room booked for 2 nights. **If I had known you can only add 1 day to the check in and 1 to the check out I would have bid for the middle night :) **So I then repeated the above steps to add 2 nights to the first room. Yippee - got the Gaylord again. So I had 1 room for all 3 nights. But the other was only for 2 - I need 1 more night. Here I go again - but I may have made 1 error. For some reason, mental breakdown maybe :) , I logged into Priceline. Thinking that way I would keep track of my bookings. Repeated above steps, and :) won THE HILTON at WDW. Now that isn't bad. But it puts us in 2 hotels on 1 night. We will cope - no big problem and at least we can experience 2 hotels. But I have learned some lessons.1- If bidding for 3 days and are unsure start with the middle date - you can add 1 day to the beginning and end.2 - Bid for both rooms at the same time - if unsure still go for the 1 night but bid for the total numer of rooms inless you are willing to be split up. :o Thrilled with the outcome - now I'm hooked - is there a Priceline Anonymous
nd88 Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 One thing to note about buying one night and then adding on is that you will pay more in fees to priceline.Although you can't determine exactly how much they are; there seems to be a per transaction fee and a per night fee. You could see the difference by entering your bid price for one night, see the screen with the total fees, don't submit the bid, go back and enter the same bid price for 2 nights, see the screen with the total fees again, then divide this by two. You will see that the fees per night for one night is higher than the fees per night for two nights. Repeat for 3 nights, 4 nights, etc. nights and you will see how much more it costs you to buy consecutive night separately rather than all at once.I understand that you were being cautious because you didn't know which hotel you would get - that is the price of admission to the priceline "game". Enjoy your stay and spend lots of $$ - we need the tax revenue :)
thereuare Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Congratulations on your win and venture into the "opaque bidding" game :)You seem to have the right approach, it didnt' go exactly as you had planned... so you'll try two different hotels and be able to compare them both! So looks like you got two resort properties for under $100 each nite... not bad!Feel free to ask for help before bidding for your next stay... and thank you for using the links at SavingsBarn.com to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.PS- please start a NEW TOPIC to reflect your Hilton win as we'll use this topic title to show your Gaylord Palms win... we try to only report one property per thread as it makes the board easier to manage, as well as enables each to show when using the "recent wins" link of the Priceline Maps Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
