Dan39 Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Okay new thread! :) I am coming to NYC from Sept 22 to Sept 27.I'm just trying to get my head round Priceline at the moment.Reading previous posts the areas of MTE, MTW, UM/CPS and MTS sound about right.I'm looking for a single room at about $150 max per night all in (less if poss?). As for stars I'm not sure 2 or 3 I guess?! As long as it is clean and has TV and AC I'm happy. Oh and a private shower.
thereuare Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 Many don't recommend bidding below 3* in NYC as you are buying an opaque product... while some hotels below this star level may be acceptable, some may not.I'd take a look at EasyClickTravel if you are looking for budget accomodations so that you know what you'll be getting. Dan39 Posted July 11, 2006 Author Report Posted July 11, 2006 Okay....3 or 4*!Is $200 max including taxes a more realistic level?Or am I barking up the wrong tree, trying to use priceline?
thereuare Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Yes, more realistic... but please figure out your maximum bid amount (before taxes and fees) so that we don't suggest a strategy that is more than you want to spend.Above you say:just trying to get my head round Priceline at the momentso let us know when you are ready to bid, and your maximum bid amoutn, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Dan39 Posted July 12, 2006 Author Report Posted July 12, 2006 Right, max bid before taxes etc is $160 or there abouts. As for when to bid....I'm keen to sort it as soon as possible. Is there a better time though? i.e. closer to 22 Sept when I fly? Thanks for your help. This has certainly concentrated my mind on costs and areas.
thereuare Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 When bidding 3* in NYC you have one re-bid zone available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTE...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTW...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS and MTE...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTE...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS and MTW...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTE and MTS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTE and MTW...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160.The above will systematically take you up to your maximum bid.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. Dan39 Posted July 12, 2006 Author Report Posted July 12, 2006 Arhhh! This is driving me mental.I can't register on the US site because I don't know how to enter a UK number.Everything I try fails. My number should be like below:+44144xxxxxxx
Dan39 Posted July 12, 2006 Author Report Posted July 12, 2006 Managed to register on the US site using my mobile.Drop the leading zero and add +44.
Dan39 Posted July 13, 2006 Author Report Posted July 13, 2006 Total failure! :) I guess I need to try the same strategy in 24 hours or so?!
thereuare Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 If you're already at your maximum bid then there is not much else you can do... but i'm not surprised given current rates for this time of year.Your options come down to:-raise your bid-wait it out-add other zones-lower your star rating Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Dan39 Posted July 13, 2006 Author Report Posted July 13, 2006 Well it's not my absolute max.It is what I think is fair but........I could push the boat out a bit more.Do you recommend adding say $10 or $20 onto the posted strategy?Appreciate the help BTW.
thereuare Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Let's backtrack a moment... if you're unsuccessful with the opaque services, where and how much would you pay?Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Dan39 Posted July 13, 2006 Author Report Posted July 13, 2006 As a backup plan I booked 'Days Inn Broadway' thru Expedia.
thereuare Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Couldn't this Days Inn property be booked cheaper HERE? There is a non-refundable price which is significantly cheaper, and a refundable price which i believe is slightly cheaper than your existing reservation. Dan39 Posted July 13, 2006 Author Report Posted July 13, 2006 Yeah that is exactly the same as booking direct. However I was a little concerned that there may have been extras (taxes?) not included and so plumped for Expedia. Now I'm thinking of cancelling!!!!!Just need Priceline to come thru for me.Should I stick with the existing strat then?
thereuare Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 If you want to raise to $180 maximum bid you can repeat the previous strategy above, if rejected up to $160 then continue on as follows:Select 3* MTW and MTS and UM/CPS...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTS and MTE...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTS and MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180.Any questions feel free to ask.
