Hotwire Hotel: 2.5* Chicago (Vernon Hills) Staybridge Suites

First, I had great success with Hotwire last year. Booked my husband for 5 nights when he was starting a new job. I picked Vernon Hills, but the hotel was in Lincolnshire. Not a huge deal, but it was a longer commute for him. It also helped us realize where we don't want to live based on travel times. Anyhow, I digress. Just wanted to report this win. I'm not sure how to add it to the hotel list. Here are the amenities that were listed. We thought it was a GREAT deal!!!

Second, I want to take my niece and her friend downtown one night for a graduation gift. We are going 7/29/06 (Sat) for one night. That, unfortunately, is the only night that works for all of us. I'm having a hard time finding anything on Michigan Avenue/Water Tower for a good price. I keep seeing people reporting prices near $100, which is what I had budgeted for this trip. Unfortunately, everything I keep getting is closer to $200. It looks like Wacker is sometimes cheaper. Not totally familiar w/ downtown area. I know the girls want to go shopping, and I thought Navy Pier and maybe a boat or bus tour would be fun. Any suggestions? Is it easier to stay near Water Tower or Wacker and get all those things in? Or does it matter?
