missdaisy Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 So far have bid up to $121 at 4* level with no success. When I began bidding a few days ago, they said the median price for a 4* in Vancouver was $248, but that has since jumped to $315. Am I doing something wrong? Not bidding high enough? I'm confused since I have seen others have much lower bids accepted for downtown Vancouver. Thanks.
thereuare Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 The bad news: rates are currently very high for your datesThe good news: i think you're probably within about $10 or so of a winDo you have a maximum bid in mind? If $130 is within your budget and you want to try to get this done i would suggest increasing your bid to at least that amount on your next round of bidding.Let us know if you increase your bid and how it goes; or if we can be of further help. missdaisy Posted July 7, 2006 Author Report Posted July 7, 2006 Thanks for the advice! $130 is still in the budget, but I was hoping to get it for less. Oh well... Do you think that it's worthwhile to split my bid? Will I end up paying less in the long run if I do that? ie. try for 08/18 - 08/20 and then try for 08/20 - 08/22. I'll try bidding again in a few days. Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 It didn't appear that there was one day that was preventing your acceptance, but rather dates were high for at least 3 our of the 4 nites. You could try splitting your bid, but i'm not quite sure how much, if anything, you'd save in doing so. missdaisy Posted July 8, 2006 Author Report Posted July 8, 2006 Just tried bidding up to $130 with no success for the 4 nights. Not sure why these dates are so expensive!I'd rather not split the bid since it will be a hassle and won't save me in the long run. Do you think that there is any point in waiting a couple of weeks?
thereuare Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 HOTWIRE had an offering for $152/nite which is what prompted my comment about going up to $130 as the hotel i suspected it was had previous acceptances at that level... however, now their lowest offering via HOTWIRE is ~$175.Do you have a back-up reservation? (if so, where and how much) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
KRXNLS Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Vancouver is always very expensive in Summer and hard to get but I've been noticing a couple of winning bids (both in this board and that other one!) that seem to be quite last minute. For example 10 days or so out. We've been considering an overnight stay ourselves July 21st so I've been watching the boards and I'll post separately if we go ahead with that. There may be no validity to my thoughts but I though I'd comment.
missdaisy Posted July 8, 2006 Author Report Posted July 8, 2006 Thanks very much! I'll watch for your posts.
missdaisy Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 Just wanted to update on my situation. Have tried bidding several times up to $130, still with no success, however, I've noticed that some of the rates have dropped for my dates. I have no back up reservation as yet, but am confident that between Priceline and Hotwire, I should be able to get something and really don't mind waiting till the last minute! Thanks again for all the help here. Will update again and hopefully next post will be to report success.
missdaisy Posted July 27, 2006 Author Report Posted July 27, 2006 Just wanted to update again on my progress. I have had no success with Priceline bidding up to $130/night. Fortunately, I found a wonderful deal for the Pan Pacific Hotel on Travelzoo. It worked out to $179/night CAD for my dates, so I am happy with that and will probably stick with it. Thanks for all the help here!
