Weeble1 Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Has anyone used Hotwire to buy a room in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, Tennessee? Although Hotwire has a larger selection of rooms than Priceline, you cannot specify the town. Priceline has rooms in Gatlinburg but they are only * and **. I'm afraid if I bid on a ** 1/2 or *** through Hotwire, I'd be put in Pigeon Forge. Any suggestions?
thereuare Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Welcome to BetterBidding! It sounds as if you know the area, just how much of an area separates the 2 towns? How much of an area does that shaded area on Hotwire's map cover? What are the date(s) you are searching for? Weeble1 Posted November 22, 2003 Author Report Posted November 22, 2003 The Hotwire map has about a 15 mile radius shaded, starting at Sevierville, TN all the way to where Gatlinburg ends and the National Park begins. I would say the area between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg is 6 miles -- a road that winds through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Gatlinburg is a walkable town, whereas Pigeon Forge is more spread out and definitely requires a car.
thereuare Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Since Priceline only has low star rated hotels in the Gaitinburg area and Hotwire's zone cover both areas, I'd guess a high star rated purchase on Hotwire would have a high probability of landing you in the Pigeon Forge area. You'll have to weigh the cost savings against the possiblity of being in a zone or at a star level that you may not be happy with. This may be one of those situations where Expedia, Orbitz, or a hotel's website may be the better choice since the zones and/or star ratings of Hotwire/Priceline aren't flexible enough for your needs. brian924 Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 I know it's a bit late now, but the 3.5 star on Hotwire was the Park Vista in Gatlinburg. It was cheaper than all the other lower star levels.
