chunterk Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 I put a bid in for $100/night for July 6-8 in the Westminster section of London (4 star). Priceline offered me a hotel for $134/night. I took the hotel and it was the Riverbank Park Plaza hotel. It looks like a nice hotel and I am happy with it. However the hotel website had the exact same rate on their website. So I saved $0 by going with Priceline! Also the same thing happened with a hotel I bid for in Amsterdam. I put in for $100/night 4* and they offered $134/night. I got a Park Plaza Hotel (Victoria Hotel) but the internet rate was the same as the priceline rate. So why do I need priceline if I can go to the park plaza website!
thereuare Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 You need to educate yourself before bidding... this includes knowing prices for the area for your dates.HOWEVER, i don't believe the prices you mention above are correct. Currently at the Park Plaza website this hotel is going for 159GBP ($289US) the first nite of your stay and for 89GBP ($162US) the second nite of your stay. This brings your average nite stay to $225US vs. the $134 you paid... hardly a "what do i need Priceline for" situation!Regardless, the above is still a good reminder for everyone that you need to do a little homework before bidding blindly.Enjoy your stay. chunterk Posted June 24, 2006 Author Report Posted June 24, 2006 I just checked again and the price of the Riverbank Park Plaza Hotel has gone way up. I did the bid atleast a month ago (same for the Amsterdam hotel I posted). If I was to have done the bid on Priceline now I would have saved a lot of money. Either way I am happy with the hotel.
