My husband, 2 children and I are traveling to New York as a surprise to him for his 50th birthday. This is our first time to New York. We are ok with the fact the we are not guarenteed two beds with Priceline. My husband has always said that he wants to stay near Times Square when he visits New York, so we were thinking of only trying in the MTW area. I would like to spend less than $180 per night for a 4* hotel if this is possible. I would really appreciate it if I could get help on how to get the lowest price for this time on Priceline.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

At the 4* level you have two re-bid zones avaialble. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and re-bid zone2...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130.

If the above fails, i really recommend expanding your zones beyond MTW to get the best price. You still may need to go closer to your limit, but NYC is so compact, and mass transit readily available, that just about any midtown hotel will serve your needs well as a first time visitor.

Any questions on the above feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

PS- nice gift :)

Did you read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained link?

You need to know how to identify these on your own, as they are subject to change and need to be checked before each bidding cycle! If you don't check them you can easily end up in an area that you don't want.

If you don't understand the above link ask questions and we will walk you thru it.

I tried what thereuare suggested, and it didn't work. I still think that I would like to stay in the MTW area, so I am thinking of waiting a while and then trying the same idea with offers that are a little higher. How much longer do I have to wait before I can bid again? Thanks for all of your help.

You can try again in 24 hours.

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and re-bid zone2...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $150.

If that too fails you can then try again after another 24 hours....

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and re-bid zone2...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $170.

If that fails post back and we'll revise for another round of bidding, and i would then once again re-consider only bidding the MTW zone.

Good Luck and keep us update.

I finally succeeded at Priceline! I wanted a 4* hotel in the MTW area, and I got the Royalton Hotel. I paid $165 a night for the 4 nights that I am staying here, for a total of $784.08 including taxes. One interesting thing is that when I bid $155, Priceline gave me a counteroffer of $25 more, but I rejected it, and I only ending paying $165 a night. Thanks everyone for all of your help.

Congratulations on your win in the zone you wanted!

This is a historic hotel and i don't know if they discriminate against 'opauqe customers' or not, but i suspect that given the historic nature of this property, that the majority of rooms are quite small, even by NYC standards. Hopefully you'll post your own HOTEL REVIEW after your stay.

I would try to call the hotel to see if you could put in a request (or pay for an upgrade) to a room with two beds.

Good Luck and enjoy your visit to NYC.
