joannyangel
Need four rooms so am hoping to find a good rate (well ... lower than NYC) in NJ ... anywhere with reasonably easy access to PATH/NYC. Strategy appreciated. Thank you.Regards, :) Link to comment

joannyangel
Did as you suggested, through Savingsbarn. All rejected. Will try again in a week as I have some time. Can I do these two steps and if rejected, close browser, select Jersey City, 2-1/2* and bid (hoping to get the Courtyard) ... or will it automatically include the rebid zone (and I risk getting a 2-1/2 in Eliz)? Thanks much.Deb Link to comment
thereuare
You can try again for a 2.5* but you must close your browser and re-access priceline however you did previously. If you simply lowered to 2.5* then it would include Elizabeth, but by shutting the browser you in effect 'wipe the slate clean' and can select whichever zones you want at the new star level. joannyangel
Still zip. I only bid 80 on the 2-1/2, and of course, had no re-bid zone. Always thru Savingsbarn.com. Link to comment
joannyangel
As a follow-up .... my title should have read 3* Jersey City 7/29 as this is just one night. One night, four rooms. Sorry for the confusion. Do you have any other suggestions considering this clarification? :) Link to comment
thereuare
Rates at the Hyatt are not that high for this date ($169/nite) and Hotwire's price is just below that. I suspect that low priced inventory has not been released yet, and sometimes, even with low rates, the Hyatt does not release inventory at all.I would stick with this one and book a cancellable back up in the meantime. joannyangel
Thank you; will do. Will bid daily and post when bid accepted ... assuming ... Link to comment
joannyangel
Still following the process daily. No inventory yet apparently. Am still hopeful. :) Link to comment
joannyangel
Ugh ... time to panic? Hotwire price on Hyatt just went up $30ish. Well ... maybe not panic as I do have another reservation. Time to give up on this one? Link to comment
thereuare
Rates went up directly thru Hyatt as well... this is why we always recommend booking a cancellable back-up, glad you did so.Where and how much is your back-up reservation? joannyangel
Courtyard by Marriott Jersey City$169Is it an okay place? We'll just be sleeping and showering there. I had hoped for the Hyatt though through PL. Link to comment
thereuare
The Courtyard is fine... but at that rate i would sooner try for something in Manhattan as i think you may get a comprable rate at a higher quality hotel and actualy be able to stay in the city itself, rather than commute. raul90606
What i suggest is to watch hotwire like a hawk until you see the prices drop in Jersey City. I did this for a bid for one night 7/21 as soon as the prices dropped in hotwire, i bid $75 and was awarded the Hyatt.Like an hour later, the prices went up again on hotwire so i was lucky.Good Luck,Raul Link to comment
joannyangel
Thank you Raul. Am watching Jersey City on HW. Link to comment

joannyangel
I did that through the $130 instruction and will continue to do so. I'd like to ride it out for a little and hope to get lucky at the Hyatt; we'll see. I also see that the hotel I booked for $169 is $149 on Hotels.com. I'll watch that too (and see if I can access it via Savingsbarn). Link to comment

joannyangel
Okay; thanks. Would your strategy for a 3* in NYC be similar to the 4* above? As I mentioned ... one night, shower and sleep. Not wanting to stay in a dive, but don't need the "Ritz" either. Plz advise. Link to comment
