seningen Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 Headed to Cancun for 7/30-8/3.Omni rates ~ $149, Hilton ~ $179Tried RESORT $60, $70, $75 with rebids -- no luckTried 5* $95, $101, $106.Found cancelable online Gran Melia Cancun rate of $115 (via www.solmelia.com), so I have booked that and it sits in my back pocket as an acceptable fall back position.Would love to have something of the order of JW @ 106, but with Omni out there -- I'd go for the GMC @ 115. before settlingon PL of Omni @ >100.I've hit both Hilton and Omni ~$80 pre Wilma. That rate I'd take either, but going to $100 or more in hopes of getting the JW is risky.will keep folks posted M
theory12 Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 Hey, JW has a long way to go in terms of recovery. They pushed openeing date yet again to July 1, and that is with limited services (no suites, no spa, etc). I think the restaurants are back. Plus, I think they set that block for PL in March over spring break...at least that was what I observed in past few years/
seningen Posted June 7, 2006 Author Report Posted June 7, 2006 Thanks for the intel! The cost of getting there (airfare) varies so much -- I generally am on the look-out fora visit all the time -- but it is usually last minute.Snagging the JW during Springbreak for that price is a steal -- even if it'sjust a tent on the beach :-)I'm guessing the Gran Melia Cancun's lower online rate is due to rebuilding too, what I've read is most of things are up an running, but the auxillary pyramidsare still hurting.enjoy, mike
seningen Posted June 10, 2006 Author Report Posted June 10, 2006 been trying every 3 days -- Resort to $80, 5* to $111.Nothing yet.m
