Priceline Hotel: 2.5* Stockton-Modesto (Modesto-Salinas) Courtyard

Bid on Priceline, 2.5* for 4th of July weekend (7/2 and 7/3), Modesto-Salinas

Thought I would get Doubletree since all other hotels on Priceline "retail" site are only 2* (Doubletree is 3*). Also, the $139 retail price they listed for comparison on the Name Your Price site matched the Doubletree, but everything else listed on their retail site was much cheaper.

$71, $74, $77, $85 all rejected for 7/2 only (expanding areas used to rebid)

$91 accepted for 7/2 and 7/3 together at Courtyard by Marriott

Priceline says their retail site is separate from their name-your-price site, so the ratings/offerings don't have to match. (Courtyard isn't showing up at all on their retail site for those dates.)

After 4 calls to customer service, I found someone who was willing to admit that if the hotel was lower rated on two competitor sites (not independent review sites or hotel sites), they would "research" it and call me with a resolution. Courtyard by Marriott is only 2* at Orbitz and 2* at SideStep.com, so they say they'll call me back within 48 hours. We'll see what happens.

I'm not sure where your complaint lies...

There is no 3* bidding offered in the Modesto-Salinas area, so if you thought the inventory of the 'retail' outlet would reflect what you would win in the "name your own price" product, one would conclude that the 3* Doubletree wasn't offered via "name your own price" (since there is no 3* bidding offered in this area)
