Hello there! Last night I booked the Hilton New York via a Priceline bid of $120 a night (plus taxes and fees) for our upcoming trip. Has anyone stayed there recently via Priceline? I have read some reviews that metion in the past this hotel has sometimes given Priceline customers the smallest/oldest rooms, although not always. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on getting a decent room. I plan to call today to confirm my reservation and request a nonsmoking room with two double beds or a king bed. I know they have automatic kiosk check-in there now, I'm wondering if I should try it or just talk to one of the clerks in person? Thanks for any tips!

Sorry I didn't post my bid info. I discovered this site today after I won! It's the Hilton New York, 3 nights, June 9-11. First bid $115 on MTW, and got rejected. Then added UES and bid $120, and won.

Any advice about the check-in would be appreciated!

Taken from this PRICELINE TIPS thread:

-call the hotel and put in a bed request (especially if you know the 'priceline rooms' are only of a certain bed type)

-check-in early in the day (but after offical check-out time) when there are the most number of rooms unassigned

-join the hotels affinity program and have the number entered on your reservation. If the clerk tells you you're not eligible to get points on your reservation, tell them "i know, but i'd like it recorded in the system for any incidentals i charge to my room during my stay"

-hand them their affinity card along with your credit card when you check in

-smile and be friendly at check-in

-mention you're there for a special occaision (birthday, anniversary, etc)

If you're not happy with the first room given, be willing to ask for another one and talk to a manager if neccessary. If your still not happy, ask for names of management that you speak with as well as ask them (the manager) for the phone number to call at corporate HQs if you want to complain. Sometimes knowing that you intend on complaining is enough to get what you want, as the manager doesn't want to deal with a complaint filed with the corporate office regarding themselves or their hotel. NO MATTER WHAT, always be polite with the hotel staff, including management.
