This board is a wonderful resource. Thanks to all who keep it that way.

In March, I lucked out and got a really nice and spacious $100/night room at the Millenium UN Plaza Hotel, by placing a bid on a lark that I was sure would be too low to be accepted.

This time around, however, I don't think I'll be so lucky. I'd like to visit New York on the above dates. My preference is to stay in the Central Park South/Midtown area but I am flexible (I'd rather stay Upper West Side or Upper East Side rather than south toward the Financial District, though.)

My problem is, I don't know what price to start bidding at. Is it a dream to think that I could get a room for $150 or less at that time?

If i'm understanding your zone preferences correct you're willing to bid MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS?

If so, at the 3* level you have one re-bid zone available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3* MTW...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 3* UM/CPS...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 3* MTE...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 3* MTW and MTE...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 3* MTW and MTE and UM/CPS...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140.

I would start with the above... if rejected don't get discouraged, just re-post back and we'll revise to go up to $150.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

The hotel is the Radisson Lexington New York, $135 per night, for 6/27-30. I scampered over to tripadvisor.com to read the reviews of this hotel, and they seem quite mixed, to say the least. But, I'm sure it'll be an acceptable place to crash for a few nights. I've stayed in some truly terrible New York hotels before, and I managed to survive. :) It's the right location, if nothing else. I'll be happy to come back and post a review here.

I started my Priceline bidding through www.savingsbarn.com, and followed the plan above (I printed it out and had it right in front of me!) As my bids started getting into the $125 range, I was prompted a couple of times to increase my bid by $22, which would have led to a bid of $147. Though I was warned this was a one-time offer, I decided to take my chances, since that was very close to my upper limit.

Then something strange happened -- all of a sudden, Priceline said it couldn't verify my credit card; the same one I had been using to make all the previous bids. I switched credit cards, and the website seemed to be acting all strange...when I finally managed to put in a bid again, I got a warning message: "are you aware you already have an accepted bid for this trip?" Why no, I wasn't aware of that! Turns out somewhere in the computer wonkiness my $135 bid had been accepted, but I somehow missed it.

Anyway, thank you again for the help!

Glad it worked out well and you were able to get a hotel within your budget.

You're also right near my favorite <cheap> breakfast recommendation place... Ess-A-Bagel on 51st St and Third Ave has one of the best bagels in NYC. It's counter service but they have tables available so it makes for a very good inexpensive breakfast.

Have a great trip.. and thanks for using the PRICELINE links at SavingsBarn.com to begin your bids.
