MikeIII Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Hello. My first time bidding on Priceline.Seeking to bid for a 4* hotel in NYC 5/23 to 5/27. My preference is MTS then MTW then MTE. Would appreciate guidance in a determining an appropriate starting bid. My maximum is $160 + tax, but do not know if that is too low given that the end of my trip includes the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 I'm doubtful that $160 will be enough for this complete stay. We'll offer a strategy after you reply to a few questions which may help (and alter) the strategy suggested:1) is UM/CPS an option? including this area will increase the number of bidding opportunities you have2) at least one hotel i looked at is sold-out for your complete stay, and i'd think earlier in the week is more of a problem than the Friday of the holiday weekend... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?Let us know and we'll suggest how to best proceed. MikeIII Posted May 17, 2006 Author Report Posted May 17, 2006 UM and CPS are acceptable choices. Unfortunately, splitting bids isn't an option. Thanks.
thereuare Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 If you can't split the bid this is going to cost you more than it would if you could split and i'm doubtful $160 will be enough. This is what i would try:When bidding 4* in NYC you have two re-bid zones avialable. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTS and MTW...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTS and UM/CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. MikeIII Posted May 18, 2006 Author Report Posted May 18, 2006 I ran through the entire rebidding process suggested above up to my $160 maximum to no avail. Can't decide whether to start over with 3* or attempt to split bids. Any advice on which days to split the bids?
thereuare Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Can't decide whether to start over with 3* or attempt to split bids. Any advice on which days to split the bids?Let us know which you decide and we'll take it from there... it's not a good use of time to research which days to split if that's not the approach you decide to take. MikeIII Posted May 18, 2006 Author Report Posted May 18, 2006 Good point. I am going to sleep on it and do some 3 star research tomorrow. Thanks for the help so far.
MikeIII Posted May 19, 2006 Author Report Posted May 19, 2006 I'd like to give splitting dates a try. Would welcome some additional advice for bidding. Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Follow the above strategy for each of the following date combinations:5/23-5/275/24-5/275/25-5/27(i only think the last set of dates has an legitimate chance)If the above fails i have an alternate idea/suggestion but start with the above we'll take it from there.
