missdaisy Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 In planning this last minute trip to NYC from May 17-24, I have hit a few snags in securing accom's, most notably that my vacation rental fell through and now I must decide what to do. I am debating using priceline for the dates of May 21-24 because they are considered weeknights and I think that I can be successful. But, as an aside, I am still looking into vacation rentals and pondering whether or not I would be more successful finding a rental for a week long period as opposed to May 17-21. Clear as mud? Anyways, I just wanted to confirm the strategy as it has been awhile since I have used Priceline. I'd also like to keep it below $150 and am open to staying in ME, MS, MW, and UM. Thanks kindly for your help.
thereuare Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 How about a follow-up/conclusion to your HOTWIRE LAS VEGAS thread? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
missdaisy Posted May 3, 2006 Author Report Posted May 3, 2006 I never did use Hotwire, just Priceline for the Nugget for which I posted my successful win on the Priceline Las Vegas board. Sorry if there was any confusion... thought that I properly followed the protocol...
thereuare Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Nobody will know to look here for a conclusion to your Las Vegas thread... please add your reply to that thread.Note in that reply if you cancelled that leg of the trip, or if you used a source other than Hotiwre, where and how did you book? missdaisy Posted May 3, 2006 Author Report Posted May 3, 2006 Okay, I have followed up on the Nevada forum with all of the details of my trip to Vegas last October. Sorry for not doing so sooner...
missdaisy Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 So far I have bid without luck. Today I tried: May 21-24MTW: up to $130MTE: up to $130UM/CPS: up to $140 I also tried May 17-20 in the same zones up to $145 with no luck. I will continue to try and hope that the prices drop as the trip gets closer. I am also attempting to find accomodations through vacation rental websites, but so far have been unsuccessful getting availability.
thereuare Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Current rates are high for these dates and i'm doubtful you'll find success for a 4* at $140 or less unless hotel-direct rates come down. There is a good deal available in jersey city if you're willing to commute in via PATH train. missdaisy Posted May 6, 2006 Author Report Posted May 6, 2006 So far I have been unsuccessful in my bidding for both a 4* and 3*. My question is, what is the best way to split my bid? I am going for 7 days, so would it be best to try for May 17-21, and May 21-24 or do you have another suggestion? Thanks.
thereuare Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 Re-reading this thread it seems as if you have already bid these sub-set of dates, no?Rates are high for the above dates and i'm not so sure splitting your bid is going ot help matters any unless you are looking to just pick up one or two nite stay. We can continue to advise on how to proceed, but i would seriously begin to consider your altnernative options (raising your bid, lowering your star rating, stay in Jersey City , etc) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
missdaisy Posted June 29, 2006 Author Report Posted June 29, 2006 Just thought I'd follow up... Since I had no success with Priceline (rates too high for that time period and not willing to raise my bid), I looked for ads for vacation rentals on Craigslist, found a very nice owner of a Midtown apartment, and stayed there for 7 nights at $150/night. I am still hoping to try Priceline again though for my next trip...Thanks for all the help here.
