yguns Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Wow, I am glad I found this website. Lots of info avail. This is my first post and need some help with bidding strategies for a 4* hotel: May 27 to 30 in the area of Midtown East and Upper Midtown. What's the best way to do this? I think I am willing to spend up to $160-170? Is that reasonable?Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.
thereuare Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is there a reason you're avoiding the MTW zone? (it is usually fine for the average visitor and often offers rooms that are less expensive than other zones... also gives more opportunities to bid). If you don't want to stay in this area then don't bid it, but if MTW is also fine let us know. We'll wait to hear your reply and then suggest a strategy based upon the zones you find acceptable for your needs. yguns Posted May 2, 2006 Author Report Posted May 2, 2006 Actually MTW is fine too. I just saw that the hotels in MTE were better. Thanks and please advise when you have a moment. Much Appreciated.
thereuare Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 When bidding 4* in NYC you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155.Start with the above, if rejected we'll revise for you to try again in 24 hours with an updated strategy that goes up to your limit.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck. yguns Posted May 8, 2006 Author Report Posted May 8, 2006 Thanks for the strategy. However, it didn't work. I tried up to $150 :) Is there a better time to do this at? Like a Tues night/Wed morning? or it doesn't matter what time of the day?Any suggestions?
thereuare Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Is there a reason you stopped at $150?The next stage (for which i do believe you would likely be successful) would have gone up to your $170 limit, or did you revise that amount? yguns Posted May 8, 2006 Author Report Posted May 8, 2006 No, I just followed your strategy up to $155 and then stopped.Wouldn't I be blocked out from doing any more re-bids at 160, 165, 170 using MTE, MTW, UM/CPS?I would prefer going to $155 but I guess $170 might have to do.
yguns Posted May 8, 2006 Author Report Posted May 8, 2006 PS. I can include SoHo or MTS if necessary.
thereuare Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 However, it didn't work. I tried up to $150 :) I just followed your strategy up to $155 and then stoppedHow high did you bid so where we know where to continue from? yguns Posted May 9, 2006 Author Report Posted May 9, 2006 Yesterday, I went as high as 165 and included MTS, SoHo, MTE, MTW, UM.It was checking for a long time (the 15 minutes check) but it turned up empty.
yguns Posted May 11, 2006 Author Report Posted May 11, 2006 OK - I split my bid and got 4* W Hotel for $125 for two nights Sun to Tues. Now I just need to get a hotel for Sat.I wonder if I could have done a better job and landed a better hotel for cheaper. Oh Well. W is one of favorites anyways.
thereuare Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Can you please clarify which W Hotel you received (full name and/or address)... there are a few them in Manhattan.Do you recall your bidding history or was this your first bid in the zone you won? Please start a NEW TOPIC if you'd like help for the remainder of your stay. yguns Posted May 12, 2006 Author Report Posted May 12, 2006 W Hotel on LexingtonNo, I've followed your strategy everyday this week - trying all areas. However, this was my first attempt at splitting into Sun to Tues booking and went straight for MTE. Should have tried MTW instead.
thereuare Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Thanks for the follow-up.To clarify:However, this was my first attempt at splitting into Sun to Tues booking and went straight for MTESo for the split days did you bid $125 first, or did you bid $110, $120, $125?Thanks! yguns Posted May 12, 2006 Author Report Posted May 12, 2006 Split was done with MTE - $110, $120, and then $125
