ABBYSGRANDMA
I would like to stay at the Marriott if possible or the Intercontinental. My max bid would be $100. Is it too early? Vacationing friends have acquiredthe Caribe Hilton at $67 but i like Isla Verde better. Thanks very much. Abbysgrandma Link to comment
thereuare
Are your friends traveling the same date(s) as you? When using the opaque services you need to be flexible, which means being willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the minimum star rating you select... so you can't choose the Marriott or Inter-Continental and you may <likely> end up with a non-Isla Verde property. Is that something you're willing to accept? ABBYSGRANDMA
Yes we are travelling same date, but we are coming in from different parts of the country, this is a pre cruise stay. Yes I am willing to stay at a non Isla Verde resort. Condado area is ok, have stayed at the Marriott before. Thanks again. Abbysgrandma Link to comment
thereuare
You have two re-bid zones available when bidding Resort in San Juan. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select Resort San Juan...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.PS- i'm not so sure you'll have success with the above... how long ago did your friends book? ABBYSGRANDMA
I have tried $65, no luck added re-bid zone $65 (Mayaquez) no luckI am assuming that Dorado/is the next available re-bid zone? thanks very much. Abbysgrandma Link to comment
thereuare
Yes, Dorado is the other re-bid zone... but did you really add a re-bid zone and make the same $65 bid? (or is that a typo?) ABBYSGRANDMA
Yes I did, Mayaguez rebid zone and rebid at $65, was this incorrect? I am waiting to rebid at $70 with Dorado as free zone.Any direction is greatly appreciated. Abbysgrandma Link to comment
thereuare
I think you need a little refresher on re-bidding, as your re-bid above didn't make much sense strategically and you shouldn't be needing to wait to re-bid again. When you bid for Resort at $65 and were rejected, you then added a zone that doesn't have Resort class properties and bid $65 again. Since you couldn't win a hotel in the new zone you just added (since it only had hotels rated less then the minimum you are willing to accept), it was essentially like bidding only the original zone. So you bid $65 and they said "no", so you added a zone you couldn't win and immediately asked them again "how about $65" to which it shouldn't be surprising that they said "no" since you were rejected just moments earlier at the same amount.Does the above make any sense? Also, you say you are now waiting to bid again with Dorado as a re-bid zone... what is the point of waiting? You should have been able to follow the strategy outlined above, making the three bids back-to-back, then if rejected wait 24 hours to start the cycle all over once again.Do you have any questions regarding the above? Please ask questions before bidding again to make sure that you have it all correct. lg662
THEREUARE.....Wouldn't this person actually have 4 (not 3) bids with the 2 rebid zones? Maybe I'm not doing this right, but wouldn't this strategy give you 4 tries? 1. San Juan2. Add rebid zone13. Start new bid with San Juan and rebid zone24. Add rebid zone1Please let me know if this is not the correct way to bid because this is how I have been bidding since Dorado opened as a rebid zone. If this isn't correct, maybe this is why I've had NO LUCK bidding up to $85 for my Nov 4th stay! Link to comment
thereuare
Your gameplan is perfectly fine... but i was trying to keep it simple and the extra bids weren't really necessary 7+ months in advance of the stay. ABBYSGRANDMA
Thanks for your response. With respect to my waiting, I did want to confirm the rebid zone with you prior to proceeding. I will attempt again. Thanks very much.tried again as discussed,no luck at $75 Abbysgrandma Link to comment

thereuare
I doubt you'll currently be successful up to $100 at the Resort level. Hopefully you can prove me wrong with the following:Select Resort San Juan...Bid $80 if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85 if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90.After 24 hours (but not more than 36 hours)...Bid $80 if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95 if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100.Let us know how it goes. ABBYSGRANDMA
ThereUare - I've returned. I've been trying this date again, to no avail. Today I went up to $100, no luck.Would the only boutique be the Water Club? Thanks very much. Abbysgrandma Link to comment
thereuare
We can never say if a hotel is the "only" hotel at a given star level... all that we know is what has been reported on the board.Have you yet booked a back-up? ABBYSGRANDMA
Yes, we booked a back up at Marriott Courtyard for $200. I would like stay at $120 range with fees and taxes. Thanks for your help. Abbysgrandma Link to comment
ABBYSGRANDMA
ThereUare;I am still in search of decent price hotel, my thought is that I will have to settle for a *3 star. Your advice is always appreciated. Abbysgrandma Link to comment
thereuare
I recently search for a stay a month before your dates and currently there were no great deals. I booked a back-up and will continue to monitor rates. It's not unusual to see little discounted availability this far ahead of check-in when searching San Juan (i once had a San Juan stay only show availability 3 weeks before check-in)... although your stay is much closer to peak season than the one i'm referencing above. If you're concerned and you're more comfortable locking something in now, what appears to be the Condado Plaza is available on HOTWIRE for $138/nite (plus fees and taxes... San Juan taxes, ouch!) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
ABBYSGRANDMA
Unfortunately I did not have any success with Priceline. I did get a room with Hotwire $189 + taxes and fees ran about $230 (I was hoping it would've been the Old San Juan but it was the Intercontinental). I was unable to get early check-in but gladly the pool was open. It was more than I wanted to pay but shopping when not thinking right isn't always the thing to do. I did enjoy my stay.
