Started out for a 4*. First for $89; rejected. Second for $99; rejected. Went to a 3*. First for $101; rejected. Second for $111 accepted.

Francis Marion Hotel

5/28/06 - 5/30/06

$111/night

Cheapest found w/o using Priceline was 209 on Sunday, and 169 on Monday on Hotels.com.

The reviews for this hotel are mixed, so I'll follow up with a post after my stay. We don't plan on living in our hotel room during our stay - how bad can a hotel be for $111/night????

I've stayed at the Francis Marion twice for conferences (I live in Myrtle Beach), and I really enjoyed it both times. Some of the bathroom fixtures were older, but I never had an issue with cleanliness, and the clawfoot tub was charming. The rating may be based on the seeminly endless construction that's been going on in the area for the past few years.

Ask about paying for the parking garage, too, in case they didn't list that in the description. I think it's up to $10 per day, but I can't recall if they changed it to "included in hotel stay" or not. Four years ago it was $6 and it was not included.

LOTS of great restaurants within walking distance, as well as shopping, and a nice (small) spa in the basement. The Market is a hike, but worth it.
