vozbelle Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 I am looking for a 4* Downtown Boston - Charlestown Friday 5/26 thru Sunday 5/28. I was hoping under $100 b/c by the time the add tax and fees its like 130! :) I would only be willing to stay in either Copley or Cambridge with assurance I would be close to the "t". My last trip to Boston I was at the Omni, literally minutes from T, I would like the same convenience. I am not sure about Copley and Cambridge, I visited both areas but do not recall hotels. Can anyone provide insight? I have also heard horrible things about the various 3*, not willing to chance. I got the Omni 99/night last June but I lost the website that I used, some direct buyer, devastating :)I have bid unsuccessfully starting at 75, using free rebids up to 90. I can rebid in 24hrs (love that they changed period!)My free re-bid zones are Brighton - Brookline (which is new zone!), Medford - Somerville, and South BostonThe rates from websites for 4* for those dates are Wyndham Boston-197.95Omni-189(small room, not sure which one you receive with Priceline?)/229Onyx-239Millennium-199
thenewbie Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Welcome! The 4* locations in Copley are close to the T, so that area shouldn't be much of a concern. If price is your primary concern, it appears that you can have acceptance for the Hyatt Harborside or Hilton Logan in the Airport zone for around $50-65/night. Both hotels provide a shuttle to the Airport stop on the blue line. Cabfare from downtown Boston would run around $15.If you'd like to try for the Airport area, please let us know and we'll modify the following:Select 4* Downtown...Bid $65, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 1...Bid $70, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 2...Bid $75, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 3...Bid $80, if unsuccessful close browser and re-access priceline as you did beforeSelect 4* Copley...Bid $65, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 1...Bid $70, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 2...Bid $75, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 3...Bid $80, if unsuccessful close browser and re-access priceline as you did beforeSelect 4* Downtown and Copley...Bid $85, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 1...Bid $90, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 2...Bid $95, if unsuccessful add re-bid area 3...Bid $100
vozbelle Posted April 20, 2006 Author Report Posted April 20, 2006 No luck with all three scenarios :) Used SB link...I think I will wait to add the airport area, as last resort. They do have pools though. :) But I will be spending a lot of time in the city and dont want to have to worry about getting shuttle from T, if I want afternoon nap then back out for dinner in CityHow long should I wait to try to bid again? Use the same strategy?I have some time, trying to be patient, but its a holiday weekend. I thought everyone would be headed to the Beach or Cape instead of Boston though
thereuare Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 I would try increasing your maximum bid at least another $5 and see if that helps, if not, you'll have to decide if you want to:-increase your bid further-lower your star rating-wait it out Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
vozbelle Posted April 24, 2006 Author Report Posted April 24, 2006 Right now I am going to wait it out, I really don't want to up my bid, would resort to Airport hotel before upping bid. I am going to bid again today using same strategy and every couple of days to see if something opens upThanks! :)
vozbelle Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 Bid yesterday and today (Sb link) using strategy and nothing. :)Saw other poster with 115 win for 4* DT, I don't know if I want to try to swing that. 135/night with taxes and fees, ouch. One night is how much my RT airfare was! :) The three stars scare me, have not heard great things about, afraid I will be stuck with Plaza (friends have stayed there, UGH!). Not willing to risk. I am thinking about resorting to the airport area, rationalizing I could use the extra money for a froufrou seafood dinner! If I have nothing DT or Copley by the end of the week, I will start trying to lowball Airport. Can you provide me the strategy for airport? The 60/night sounds very good as I start getting anxious about nowhere to stay! Any thoughts on backup hotel just in case?Thank you for your help!
thereuare Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Since prices can change between now and the time you are ready to include the airport area, let us know when you are ready to include that area and we'll look at current prices at that time. For a cancellable back-up i would look towards EasyClickTravel as well as any of the hotel-direct links in our support page. vozbelle Posted May 1, 2006 Author Report Posted May 1, 2006 Not sure if this should be new post?? After unsuccessful daily attempts, Friday I started adding the airport area with a max bid of 65 for 4 stars. I saw one coming up on hotwire for $100, knew priceline would be cheaper. I really wanted DT but I figured I would be close to the airport for flight home and could save some money. I can be inconvenienced to save 40/night. Plus they have pools and trip advisor reviews were generally good :) This morning I was successful with a 4*, bid started at $50, using free re-bids at $5 incrementsI was awarded the Hilton Boston Logan Airport for my efforts (which is the one I wanted! :o )2 nights Friday May 26th-Sunday May 28th. Subtotal: $130.00 Taxes & Service Fees:$24.98 Total Charges: $154.98 Now I feel like I could have gotten it cheaper if I waited, the lowest price on their site is 149/night, advance payment. :) I was getting worried and everyone kept asking me "where are you staying in Boston?", "I don't have a hotel yet" drew many concerned looks! :)
thereuare Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Now I feel like I could have gotten it cheaper if I waited...Or maybe prices would have gone higher and you wouldn't have been successful at this price! :)This is less than half price and anytime you can get a room for less than half it's a great deal.Enjoy your stay.
