Boston seems very expensive...even compared to Japan, which is where I live.

I was trying to get in the Cambridge area for a 4* or 3*, but after my first attempt and researching, it looked like Downtown would be convenient to MIT using the subway.

I did not note the exact prices, but for Cambridge all 3* and 4* hotels (Hyatt,Marriott,Hotel@MIT) have been way over $200/night on the hotel web-sites.

My first bids on 4/14/06:

4* Cambridge $60/+Med$70/+SB$80

new browser 3* Cambridge $50/+Med$60/+SB$70

Second round of bids on 4/16/06:

4* Cambridge $80/+Med$90/+SB$100/+Brookline$105

new browser 4* Downtown $80/+Brookline$90/+Med$100/+SB$105

Won Wyndham Boston $105/night*3 = $330

+$15 insurance + $52.07 taxes & fees

Total $382.07

Their current web-rate (prepaid/non-refundable) is $269 and best available is $299, so I think I did OK. I guess that May is not the time of year for getting those $50 deals....?

Best of luck to everyone. Thank you for this site! It really helped me understand the Boston area a bit better.
