Priceline Hotel: 3* Sarasota, FL 5/5-5/7/06

Although I was unsuccesful at getting a 3* hotel in Sarasota for 5/5/-5/7/06, I thought others my benefit from the bid history. (The only Sarasota 3* on the Priceline list is the Sarasota Hyatt.)

Waited 24 hours, then:

3* Downtown Sarasota: $ 76 rejected

3* Downtown Sarasota + East Sarasota : 81 rejected

3* Downtown Sarasota + East Sarasota + Lido Beach: 91.00 rejected

3* Downtown Sarasota + East Sarasota + Lido Beach + Venice: $101 rejected.

Waited 24 hours, then:

Bid History, April 7, 10 PM

3* Downtown Sarasota: 106 rejected

3* Downtown Sarasota + East Sarasota : 110 rejected

3* Downtown Sarasota + East Sarasota + Lido Beach: 115 rejected

3* Downtown Sarasota + East Sarasota + Lido Beach + Venice: 120 rejected

The list price Priceline gives for 3* hotels is about $80, so it doesn't seem worth it to go higher. I'm a bit surprised that $120 was rejected. Does Priceline ever list a hotel choice (i.e., 3* in a given location) if there are, in fact, no rooms available?

PS The 5/5/06-5/7/06 dates are fixed (work travel), and if I am going to do a 2*, I would rather do it knowing what the hotel is.

I recently was unsuccessful in obtaining a hotel room (in Sarasota, Florida in May). After multiple attempts, I went $40 over Priceline's "list price", and the bid was rejected. Here's my question:

Does Priceline ever list a hotel choice (e.g., 3* in a given location) if there are, in fact, no rooms available?

The star ratings that priceline allows you to select in the "Name your Own Price" are indicative of hotels that they deal with at each star rating... availability for your specific dates is not a factor.
