I posted a request for bidding assitance but don't want to combine the posts.

I need 4 nights in NYC. I have 1 free night at the Marriott Marquis that I can use for the first night of our stay or the last night.

Should I use the free night for Thursday or Sunday? As far as bidding, which would give me the best chance for a cheaper rate?

Thanks,

Duane

Your posts are for the same stay so they have been merged into the same thread.

Can you secure your 3 nite room stay first and then determine which nite to use the certificate? Are you sure the certificate is available to be used for either the Thursday or Sunday nite of your particular stay?

I haven't looked at your specific dates, but generally speaking Sunday is the least expensive nite of the week in NYC. If you let us know the above regarding the use of the certificate we will have a closer look at your dates and suggest a strategy to try going forward.

Thanks.

I can use the hotel award on Thursday or Sunday, so that's not a problem. I probably have to book that portion fairly soon though.

So, you're thinking that I should probably use the free night for Thursday and try priceline for Fri, Sat, Sun? That's what I was thinking.

Thanks,

Duane

I'm thinking that is how it will play out, but why not try to get the 'opaque' room FIRST, then book the award certificate?

What will you do if you're not successful up to $130 for your paid nites?

Are you ready to bid now? (if so we'll suggest a strategy to follow... if not, let us know when you are ready)

Yes I am ready to bid now. After checking a few more rates, it looks like I'd be better off going up to $150. I feel anything under $150 for a 4* would be a great deal.

I have backup reservations at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square for Friday and Sat at $217 and Sunday @ $159. I really do not plan on saying here, but just wanted something as back up. And yes, if all else fails I could easily stay there. Just booked that becasue it was the cheapest brand name I could find.

We would really like the Marriott Marquis and would bid higher if we could get it, but I realize there is no way to target a specific property.

Thanks for your help.

When bidding 4* in NYC you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected closer browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected closer browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* UM/CPS...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected closer browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and MTE...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $135, if rejected closer browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $135, if rejected closer browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and MTE and UM/CPS...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $150.

The above will take you up to your $150 limit. I would first bid the above for 5/12-5/15, if that is rejected then try again for 5/11-5/14.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Change of Plans....

Talking with my wife, she really would like to stay at the Marriott Marquis for at least a couple of nights. I found a Sunday rate for $159 + taxes. I could use my certificate for Saturday, pay $159 for Sunday and that way I have a Saturday and Sunday stay at the Marriot for a pretty decent price. I have reserved the room for Sunday, fully cancelable but have not yet booked my award night.

Would I still use the same basic bidding strategy for a Thursday and Friday night? Once I have your response, I will go ahead and book the room.

Thanks,

Duane

No I didn't, but I will go do that. Once I book it I'll delete my other reservation. I'll do what I can to support this site. Also, I made a mistake, I booked it for $239, not $159. That was the Hilton Gardne In that I had that rate on.
