getitforless Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Tried to bid during the last week for Washington, DC for 5/22-5/24 with no success. Regular prices are extremely high for these dates....Is there anything going on during these days? I went up to $125 for 4* and $105 for 3* for DT and CH areas. Am I trying too soon (2 months)? Should I wait few more days/weeks? I know you can get a pretty good deal for 4* for around $90-$100.... Thanks for any help on it.... :)
thereuare Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Washington DC can often be expensive... even higher than you have already bid. What is your maximum bid? mikepru Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 You might want to try Hotwire, too. I checked your dates, and if you are willing to stay in Georgetown rather than near Metro Center/Chinatown, you could get a 3* for $90. But don't give up on Priceline, either, especially if you want a particular part of the city. I had the same problem with Baltimore, and got a good deal a week later, after a few failed attempts. getitforless Posted March 21, 2006 Author Report Posted March 21, 2006 Thank you. Unfortunately, I have not book book a back up reservation. I'm willing to do so but everything is $170 and above so I'll wait to some special/sale in order to book the back up reservation. My bidding limit is $150 per night (including taxes). Since I can bid every 24 hours, I'm going to try again in a hour. I will use the savingsbarn.com link. Thanks again for all your help. I will keep you posted.
getitforless Posted March 21, 2006 Author Report Posted March 21, 2006 Went up to $125 for 3* and $140 for 4* with no success. I also added Dupont circle and tried it for the same prices without success. Any ideas?
thereuare Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Bidding $140 puts you over your limit, no?As a back-up how about the Best Western Skyline for $116/nite as the recent reviews aren't too bad... or expanding your zones and commuting via the metro? getitforless Posted March 21, 2006 Author Report Posted March 21, 2006 I went a little above my limit with the $140 bid. I also secured a reservation in Best Western thru savingsbarn.com.Any other ideas? Should I wait to the last minute with Priceline bidding? Any chance for reduction in prices as we become closer to the travel date???Thanks again.
thereuare Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 I'd hold off until mid-April... bump this thread at that time and we'll have another look at current rates and we'll give it another try.
