robcomp Posted October 12, 2003 Report Posted October 12, 2003 Booked the 4* Embasssy Suites on Anza Blvd. in Burlingame, CA, (San Francisco Airport) on Priceline for $60. My original bid was $48, but I was asked to increase bid by $12 in order to secure reservation.
dbnyc Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 hi robcomp. this is a great hotel! for future reference, you probably could've gotten it for a few dollars less. the "Raise your bid by $12" thing that you got was a Counteroffer from Priceline. Counteroffers are usually higher than the dollar amount you would need to win a bid. this way Priceline makes a little extra money. you can usually undercut the Counteroffer. have you read through the bidding tips here on the boards? they would've helped you figure out that you can reject Priceline's counteroffer, and rebid a lower dollar amount (like $50). try: http://www.betterbidding.com/show.php/act/...t/ST/f/173/t/16http://www.betterbidding.com/show.php/act/...t/ST/f/173/t/19
robcomp Posted October 13, 2003 Author Report Posted October 13, 2003 Thanks much for the tip on counteroffers. I had not read about this in the bidding tips section, but I will certainly try this approach the next time I get a counteroffer from Priceline! Every little bit helps!
