Priceline Hotel: Local taxes in South San Francisco

In the past, most hotels in the city of South San Francisco charged me additional taxes not collected by Priceline or Hotwire, totaling about $3.50 per night.

I was surprised last week when no charges were imposed upon checking out of the La Quinta.

I was again surprised today when no charges were imposed upon checking out of Courtyard by Marriott.

I wonder if a high volume of customer complaints forced Priceline and Hotwire to include these taxes in the bidding process. If so, maybe resort fees in other areas like Palm Springs will also go away and make the game more fair.

Haven't checked with the city, but La Quinta's website, as well as Hilton Garden Inn's, show these local taxes in their rate rules, separated from the standard hotel tax:

La Quinta: $3

HGI: $2.50 + $.45
