onelostchild Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 i've been trying to bid for a hotel thru priceline for midtown west, 4* for $110 - rejected, added midtown east for $120 - rejected. i stopped trying knowing i'm not going to get anything for that price right now. the max i would pay is $130 a night!is it too early to bid? i see other bidders get a really good deal from priceline but i'm not getting anything. is there something i'm doing wrong in priceline? i know it's memorial weekend but i'm still staying on a weekday! any suggestions? thanks!
thereuare Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 If you'd like us to suggest a strategy, do you want to go up to $120 or $130?Are MTE and MTW the only zones you're willing to stay in? What about UM/CPS which is usually fine for more visitors as well?Do you have a back-up reservation near your limit? What will you do if unsuccessful with the opaque suppliers?I'd suspect that the holiday weekend is actually less expensive than the nites before... NYC is often cheaper on the weekends than mid-week (as there are both business travellers and tourists occupying hotel rooms midweek... but only tourists on the weekends). onelostchild Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 thanks for responding!$120 would be my max for now - just cuz i still have time to look around and see if there are any specials.MTE and MTW would be my MAIN areas. if all fails...then UM/CPS would be alright too! i stayed at Marriot Financial the last time i was there and it was so out of the way of everywhere...well..besides the ferries and WTC.if i don't get anything from priceline, i was going to get something from hotwire...there's nothing much right now on hotwire.OoooO....that's right...i never thought of it that way! hehe!! but i'll be there wed - sat so i guess it will expensive!!!do you think it's too early for priceline?
thereuare Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Please don't post in purple as it makes your post harder to read.Given your limit i would bid as follows:Select 4* MTE...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120.I think you will ultimately need to raise your bid to get a 4* property for this stay, and i would find a cancellable back-up in the meantime... what if you rates only go up from here? Using Hotwire as your back-up is not a sound gameplan since if rates go up from here, Hotwire rates will as well (and they're currently well out of your price range). Most cancellable rates are thru the hotel's own websites and you can find links to the most hotels in our support page. onelostchild Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 sorry to sound stupid but i'm not understanding the 'if rejected add re-bid zone...' what does that mean? i read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained but i stil don't get it. so if i bid $100 for MTE and they reject me, then what do i re-bid on?
thereuare Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Post each zone in NYC and the highest star rating available in each zone. Use the following technique to determine the highest star rating available in each zone (from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained):The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. We'll then explain furhter.
