Hi Guys,

Looking at 2 nights in NY, budget probably $300 or so. King bed, double occupancy. 2 adults just looking to be close to bars and restaurants around midtown.

We are fairly flexible on location in Manhattan but the idea of a 5 star near Central Park South is appealing.

Hotwire Easy View Deal at $258 - which looks like Quin Central park (I assume it has to be to match 3,550 reviews 🙂) - seems like a pretty good deal.

Has there been much forum feedback on this or similar 5* deals?

Cheers,

Dave

ETA - probably should have posted this in hotwire forum but flexible between either HW or priceline

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Based upon your reference to the Quin, i am assuming your budget is $300 per nite (vs. total for the entire stay).  Note that from what i have read there is currently construction/refurbishing going on at that property.  If you're open to other ideas some things i see as interesting (with our best guess following each):

5* Central Park South (<-- CLICK HERE and confirm your dates on the landing page) for $189/nite with:
Free Breakfast
Pets Allowed
Fitness Center
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
Free Internet
==> InterContinental Times Square

5* Chelsea Area (<-- CLICK HERE and confirm your dates on the landing page) for $237/nite with:
Pets Allowed
Fitness Center
Business Center
Restaurant
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
Free Internet
==> Kimpton Eventi

5* HOTWIRE Empire State Building - Bryant Park for $285
Free Internet
Pet Friendly
Smoke Free
Fitness
Restaurant
==> Refinery Hotel New York

If you don't necessarily have to have a 5 star hotel you could also consider either of the following, both of which generally receive excellent reviews:

4.5* Empire State Building Area (<-- CLICK HERE and confirm your dates on the landing page) for $214/nite with:
Pets Allowed
Restaurant
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
Free Internet
==> Archer Hotel New York

4.5* Rockefeller Center - Bryant Park (<-- CLICK HERE and confirm your dates on the landing page) for $231/nite with:
Free Breakfast
Pets Allowed
Fitness Center
Restaurant
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
Free Internet
==> Park Terrace Hotel on Bryant Park

Any of the above of interest?

Looks like none of these would translate to city view, right?

As far as Kimpton describes their rooms.

I don't think any of the above are necessarily going to guarantee you a city view.

Finding a hotel that you want and that shows a specific room type (ie- 'city view' ) that you're hoping for is going to be a difficult feat... most hotels are not going to be that descriptive nor are they necessarily going to disclose/label their most sought after rooms at a deep discount.  You may get lucky, and it does happen, but you're really holding out for the needle in the haystack.

Sometimes you can upgrade to the type of room you want just by asking, or sometimes with an additional upgrade fee... but this is HIGHLY 'your mileage may vary'; so much depends upon what is available at the time you check-in, mood of the front desk clerk, hotel policy, occupancy levels, etc. etc.  At check-in you could ask if a room with a view is available, and if the answer is 'no', you could then ask 'what about for an additional fee could i upgrade to a room with a view?'  Such a room may not be available, or the front desk clerk may not want to go thru the keystrokes to re-assign your room, or you may be given a price for the upgrade (which you can then still try negotiating lower).

Bottomline is that the opaque providers offer a deep discount in exchange for being flexible, so unless you're able to find a room that specifically offers a city view, and you would be disappointed if you end up in a standard room, you may have to 'pay up' for the room type you want at regular retail rates (at which point i will also add that our current Priceline Coupon is valid for PRICELINE EXPRESS as well as and 'retail' rates where you pay in advance.
