rspencer Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 At the last minute or so it seems, we have decided to go to Washington for Spring Break (March 27-31st.) I know that this is prime time but what should I be looking for as far as prices go. I would like to stay at a 2 1/2 - 4 star hotel and would like to spend under a $125 a night. Am I being realistic or should I look into Virginia or a Maryland suburb. Also, I have never used priceline. Should I assume that prices will be much higher and adjust my bid accordingly. We have 2 girls 9 and 10 - will most hotels have two beds. Thanks for any and all help that you can send my wayRich
thereuare Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 A quick look at rates reveals that prices are indeed high for your dates, but it never hurts to try for what you really want first and then use your second option (the suburbs) if your first approach fails. However, more importantly, Priceline only guarantees double occupancy, after that it is at the discretion of the hotel; so there is some risk involved in booking one room for four people when all that is guaranteed is double occupancy. If you're willing to accept this risk then we can suggest a strategy to use going forward. If not, you may want to give Hotwire a look, which does allow you to search for up to quad occupancy, but usually costs a little bit more than Priceline.Let us know your thoughts/questions regarding the above and we'll take it from there. rspencer Posted March 11, 2006 Author Report Posted March 11, 2006 It looks like Hotwire would then be my best bet. Given the high cost of parking in Washington, I think I should concentrate on the suburbs of Washington. Does Hotwire work similarily to Priceline? Also, should I bid about 1/2 of the book/rack rate when bidding on hotwire?Rich
thereuare Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 There is no bidding on Hotiwre... the price is given to you.Start here which explains the similarities and difference with each service: I'VE NEVER USED PRICELINE or HOTWIREContinue to use this thread for your Hotwire stay and we'll ultimatley move it to that section of the board if that service is used.If you see any Hotwire offerings in the suburbs let us know the star rating, zone, and full list of amenities that are shown and we can try to help you figure out the property beforehand.Let us know if you have any question or how we can further help.
