Michael B Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Hi Folks,Our stay in NYC is from 4/14 (Fri) to 4/22 (Sat). Since this stay appears to be longer than most on the forum and falls during the Easter holiday any tips or answers would be appreciated. Our flight is already booked, so no changes can be made on the dates.Preferences are: less than $130 in MTE and 3 or 4*- Should I break the booking into two 4 night stays?- Will prices rise due to the holiday?- Will I receive a more favourable rate due to the length of stay? Thanks,
thenewbie Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 - Should I break the booking into two 4 night stays? Are you willing to stay in 2 seperate hotels? If so, look on a website, such as Travelocity"]Travelocity, to check rates for each night to determine how to maximize splitting your dates.- Will prices rise due to the holiday? No. Rates are more expensive for the end portion of your trip.- Will I receive a more favourable rate due to the length of stay? Not on Priceline or HotwirePreferences are: less than $130 in MTE and 3 or 4*Would you be willing to stay in MTW? If not, we'll provide you with a bidding strategy for only MTE. You'll also want to read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained to learn how to find what areas you can use for free rebid areas. Let us know if you only are interested in MTW and what your rebid areas are for the 3* and 4* levels, and we'll recommend a bidding strategy for you!
thereuare Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Welcome to BetterBidding!I will also add: is the UM/CPS zone ok too? The more zones you add the better your chances of success within your budget. Also, if you're unsuccessful for your complete stay at a 4* property, would you prefer to try for a complete stay at the 3* level or would you prefer to try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID so that part of your stay may be at a 4* and part of your stay at a 3*. Some prefer not having to change hotels while others prefer to be a higher star rated hotel for at least part of their stay.Let us know the above (including thenewbie's comments) and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. Michael B Posted March 11, 2006 Author Report Posted March 11, 2006 We would prefer to stay in one hotel for the duration of the stay. If it means spending ~5-10% more, then we will stay put.Although this is our first visit to NYC, I chose MTE because I thought that it was "less busy" (whatever that means :) than MTW/Times Square. Therefore, UM/CPS would be OK, I guess. What I really want is not to step out of the hotel door and into a traffic and people zoo, but have a variety of reasonable restaurants and neaby safe subway stations accessible both morning and evening. Please let me know if I'm crazy...
thereuare Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 I don't think you'll currently be successful at the 4* level within your budget. You can try the following just to give it a go, but current prices don't suggest successAt the 4* level you have two re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $115, if rejected add MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130.Once the above is rejected, not sure if you'd prefer to try for a 3* at these price OR wait it out in hopes that prices come down.Let us know how the above goes and we'll take it from there. Michael B Posted March 26, 2006 Author Report Posted March 26, 2006 Won at $180/night for 4/14-4/22 at Roosevelt Hotel. We bid MTE/UM-CPS/UME/UMW 4* from $140 with re-bids to $185 with no luck.Bid MTW 3* from $150 to $180 with no luck.Added UM-CPS/UME/UMS with no luck until we added MTE at $180. Then we won (as I expected) the Roosevelt.
thereuare Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Glad you got this taken care of, but I think you should have asked for a 3* strategy as the above looks like an overbid given the way you proceeded :)Enjoy your stay in NYC.
