Do rooms typically default to non-smoking?

No guarantees, but the majority of the times guests receive no smoking rooms if that is what they would like, even if it's simply a matter of odds given that most hotels have a very high percentage of non-smoking rooms (and often only a handful of smoking rooms... for those that even still allow smoking)

 

You can call the hotel you win after your purchase and request a non-smoking room, sometimes they will assign your room beforehand or make a note of your request, other times the hotel will make you wait until check-in to make your requests and will do whatever they can to accommodate based upon what is available.
