SusanD Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 :)Hi! I have been tasked with reserving a hotel room in NY for a group of friends who are going to see a show. We'd like the most stars for the least bucks - what a shocker! I have read through many NY posts, and was wondering if you could help devise a strategy for bidding. We'll go up to $200 a night. What can we expect for Nov 14 &15? many thanks.
thereuare Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Welcome to BetterBidding!Under $200/nite should be easily do-able (famous last words!), although dates surrounding this timeframe have already been difficult due to a convention.Since you have some time before your stay, i would first try this low ball stratetgy first, if rejected, report back and i'll update with a follow-up strategy. Assuming you'd be happy with MTE, MTW, or CPS/UM, try this....Selecting 4*....Select MTE and bid $75, if rejectedAdd MTW and bid $95, if rejcted, Add CPS/UM and bid $100, if rejectedAdd re-bid zone and bid $110.If you need more information on re-bid zones give this thread a read: Bidding Again Before 72 HoursI'll also just add a comment: You say you're bidding for a 'group', i don't know how many rooms you're booking or how many people you intend on putting in a room, but many NYC hotel rooms can only accomdate 2 per room.Any questions regarding the above, or if you need further info on re-bidding, feel free to ask.I also did a Hotwire search and within your range there is a 4.5* hotel, which appears to be the Inter-Continental The Barclay for under $150, so i think ultimately you'll be successful at under $200. thesqueegeekid Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 I just stayed and really enjoyed the Millennium Hilton in Lower Manhattan/Financial district even though it is away from all the midtown action. Plus, it offers great bang for the buck .... $105. Its a very close walk to many things .... Canal St, ferries etc, WTC.My first choice would be trying for the Waldrof in MTE which goes for $100+
blindman Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 A recent bid (about end of Sept) for 11th to 15th Nov was finally successful at $175. for LM.I think they seriously overbid for LM,but their bidding strategy (for what it was)showed that up to $160 didn't get MTWor MTE Rates do change though and as Thereuare suggests I'd expect that $140 should suffice, maybe even less if you bid when the convention releases their hold on the hotels (possibly 17-19th October).Good luck
