Brensher
Hi, first time user here. We're travelling into NYC on the 27th of sept to 1st of October. (check out 1st oct) Our group consists of 2 couples (total 4 adults) and we're looking for hotels in the NYC area for 4 nights. Acceptable 4* to 5* accomodation. Budget ard $130-150 per room per night (not sure if this is a stretch, otherwise we'd be looking at an apartment rental) Looking at ard Madison Square Garden - Convention Area, or Chelsea hotels. Would PRICELINE / HOTWIRE be a good place to start? Thanks! Brendan Link to comment

thereuare
Your dates are near the beginning of high season for NYC and your $150 budget is not likely going to realistic, but you're not too far off. If you're not flexible in regards to budget a 3* star hotel can be had for about the $150 area... a 4 star in the $175 ballpark. I'm very familiar with NYC so let us know if you have any questions or how we can be of further help. Brensher
We have some flexibility to travel up to 1 week before the proposed dates. Will that help the prices or will there be events during late september too? Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
It's not likely going to help as it's not a 'one time event' (like a conference, festival, show, etc) that is taking place on your dates above... it's just seasonally the start of high-season and therefore more expensive. Generally speaking weekend rates are cheaper than mid-week rates, with Sunday nites being the least expensive (so not sure if making this a 3 nite trip instead of 4 nites is a possibility, or if SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is an option (see example near end of this post)) You can use our BiddingHelper.com site to search for various possible dates for your trip and have a look inside the PRICELINE EXPRESS tab and the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab. After your search: 1) use the price slider on each (top right of the search results) to limit the results to hotels between a given price range, although i'd suggest using a number just slightly over your budget to make sure you're not missing out on an incredible deal that may be just $5-$10 over your budget 2) then just above the search results click the PRICE link which will sort the results from lowest to highest 3) OPTIONAL: use the star rating checkboxes on the lower left (you will have to scroll down the page) to only include star ratings that you're interested in seeing. However, given most (all?) 4 star hotels are likely going to be over your budget, i would filter here to 3* and higher just in case there is a great deal on a 3*/3.5* hotel that may have great reviews and work for your needs Using the method above do you see anything for alternate dates that is within your budget? To give you an example of how SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID may work: For 9/28-10/1: (which being the weekend are the least expensive nites of your trip): 4* Rockefeller Center - Bryant Park Restaurant No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> this is offered at $164/nite plus using the board's Priceline Coupon can bring this down to $156/nite ... then for the nite of 9/27 (or 10/2 if that is an option as well) you try to find a different hotel that is near your $150 budget OR staying near the airport if you have a late nite arrival or early depature Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.
