Leesilv06 Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 Hello, my husband and I will be in Chicago August 31-September 4th. We will be catching a preseason game at Soldier Field and taking in the city for our 5th year anniversary. I would like a hotel that is close to the goings on, but that won't break the bank. I've been researching on Hotwire and found these hotels. Can someone help me figure out what hotels this might be and if these are good areas for us? Thanks in advance! Hotwire $77 McCormick Place - South Loop 4 stars 95% recommended FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Indoor pool(s), Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Golf nearby, Wheelchair accessible $91 River North 4 Stars 75% recommended FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Boutique hotel, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Golf nearby, Spa services, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower $97 Loop Millenium Park 4 stars 75% recommended FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Indoor pool(s), Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Golf nearby, Spa services, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower $101 Loop Millenium Park 4 Stars 90% recommended FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Internet access, Golf nearby, Spa services, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower

thereuare Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 Best guess / comments for each: 4* McCormick Place - South Loop for $77.00 Free Internet Indoor Pool Smoke Free Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Golf Wheelchair Accessible ==> Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, but this zone is not really the location you want to be in unless you are attending an event at the convention center 4* HOTWIRE River North for $91.00 Free Internet Boutique Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Golf Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ==> new amenity set for the Hotel Felix Chicago 4* HOTWIRE Loop - Millennium Park for $97.00 Pet Friendly Boutique Indoor Pool Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Golf Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ==> from the Hotwire Hotel List matches previous reports for the Palmer House A Hilton Hotel and that would be my best guess here 4* HOTWIRE Loop - Millennium Park for $101.00 Pet Friendly Boutique Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Hi-Speed Internet Golf Spa Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ==> the Kimpton Hotel Allegro has been seen with this amenity set and would be my guess for this one (this hotel also provides a free wine hour every nite which may help save a few dollars before heading out for the evening if you an your husband like to relax with a glass a wine while on vacation) For the Express Deal offer (confirm your dates on the landing page of the provided link): 4* Chicago Loop - Grant Park for $96 Pets Allowed Business Center Indoor or Outdoor Pool Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> The Palmer House Hilton is my guess here Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Leesilv06 Posted August 17, 2017 Author Report Posted August 17, 2017 Thanks so much for your help. We went with the HOTWIRE Millennium Park for $101 and you were right we got the Kimpton Hotel Allegro which I am very happy about! Do you have any suggestions as to restaurants? We would like a "fancy" dinner for our anniversary, other than that we would just like to try different types of places. Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing your win with the board! Should make for a very nice stay and anniversary celebration... glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and are looking forward to your trip. I'll let AaronJB comment on any restaurant suggestions as he knows this area best (if you see this before he replies you may want to indicate what type of food(s) you like and an expected budget for dinner so he has a better idea of what you're looking for) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Leesilv06 Posted August 19, 2017 Author Report Posted August 19, 2017 Thanks! We eat almost anything. I definitely would like to try a good deep dish as I've never had it. I think my husband has made reservations at the Metropolitan Club for our actual anniversary. so I guess some casual places with good food. American, Italian, Japanese , Indian are all good with us. Thanks again.
AaronJB Posted August 20, 2017 Report Posted August 20, 2017 I tend to be a fan of Lou Malnati's in terms of deep dish from the standpoint of I think it provides the best all around experience in that both solid pizza and a good restaurant experience. Uno's is tiny and you almost have to go there on an off time. The closest would be on 439 N Wells downtown in the River North area. In the River North area, there's also Farmhouse (beer battered fried Wisconsin cheese curds; http://farmhousechicago.com/menus/) and Boarding House (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d3708029-Reviews-The_Boarding_House-Chicago_Illinois.html#MAPVIEW).. River North is also the home to the famed restaurants of Rick Bayless; while Frontera Grill is often crowded, casual restaurant Xoco (http://www.rickbayless.com/restaurants/xoco/) is a great way to get a taste without such a wait. River North is also the home of Portillo's (https://www.yelp.com/biz/portillos-hot-dogs-and-barnellis-salad-bowl-chicago) and Doughut Vault (https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-doughnut-vault-chicago, which is open until it sells out for the day.) Across from Millennium Park on Michigan Ave, Acanto's a good Italian spot (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d7083948-Reviews-Acanto-Chicago_Illinois.html). Nearby, I also like Wildberry (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d2407503-Reviews-Wildberry_Pancakes_and_Cafe-Chicago_Illinois.html) a few blocks away. Eataly (https://www.eataly.com/us_en/stores/chicago/) is a lot of fun to browse around and is great for a snack - terrific focaccia bread. That's right off Michigan Ave, so easy stop to tie in if you're going shopping. Also good for a quick bite is Hendrickx (https://www.yelp.com/biz/hendrickx-belgian-bread-crafter-chicago), which is on a side street towards the top end of Michigan Ave. Further North in the Gold Coast is Gibson's (https://www.yelp.com/biz/gibsons-bar-and-steakhouse-chicago, which you see the front of in the FX series, "The League") and Blue Door Kitchen (https://www.yelp.com/biz/blue-door-kitchen-and-garden-chicago-2) among a number of other restaurants. It is not open on Sunday, but Chicago French Market (https://frenchmarketchicago.com/location/) is a few minutes walk West of your hotel, under the train area at the Ogilvie Transit Center. The newish Revival Food Hall (https://www.revivalfoodhall.com/) is also an easy walk from your hotel. Both of these options provide places not far from your hotel that provide a variety of different options in one place. Some of vendors in these markets have food trucks or restaurants elsewhere in the city as well. Definitely let me know if you have any other city questions at all.
