ingdirect Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Hi all, I'm a newb here. I just bid on a 2* hotel at $35 using PL in the downtown region of Montreal. As I understood it, if the bid fails, I have to retry in 72 hours for the same star rating right? Except in this case, I got a screen saying my bid was too low and to raise my bid by $9 to try again. I did so making my bid $44, and the bid went through (I got the Quality Hotel on Avenue du Parc BTW). Am I confused about how all this works?
blindman Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 What you saw was a priceline counter offerUsually along the lines of "just this one time we'll let you rebid without changing anything but for $xx more"This usually means that there's room availability and you are very near the price. The $xx amount is usually double what is needed to 'win' the room so if you have time and free rebids it is possible to undercut this extra amount usually by half.In your case $9 is no big deal so at least you won the room.In the general run of things PL will not let you bid again unless you change one of the three variables:Date\length of stayLocation of areaLevel of * rating. If your town\city has Free rebids available then this is where they can be used to good effect. If not then you may be able to change the arrival\departure dates and if you win then try to use the Add a Night Feature. Changing * rating really means getting a different hotel and the orignal bid is not really relevant. If you can't change either then you must wait exactly 72 hrs before rebidding.Or get your partner a friend to bid for you.
