Welcome to BetterBidding!

Bidding on PRICELINE is probably not going to be the best option for this trip since you need accommodations for quad occupancy and all PRICELINE reservations are for double occupancy, so you run the risk that you are assigned a room with only one bed.  However, all is not lost, as you could use:

PRICELINE EXPRESS - choosing an offer that shows a Bed Choice option and one of those options is a room with two beds (technically your reservation is still only for double occupancy, but i don't know of anyone who has yet had an issue showing up with 4 guests when the room is designed to accommodate that many... so still a risk, but a very slight one, imo)

HOTWIRE - two options here... 1) you can search for 2adults/2children and are guaranteed that the room will accommodate the number of guests included in your search (this usually means 2 beds in the room, although the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, a rollaway brought into the room, etc) or 2) search for double occupancy and find a hotel that offers a bed choice option just as is mentioned above for PRICELINE EXPRESS (same caveats/risks apply)

Of course you could also bid on PRICELINE and hope for the best and that the hotel will be willing and/or able to provide you with a room that will accommodate everyone in your family, but that would be a much larger risk than the other options above (and not one i would be willing to take myself in a large city, where rooms are typically smaller than usual and hotels tend to have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed)

bid on two hotel rooms instead of just one. Would this be better?

... but if sticking with your $150 budget that leaves only $75/nite for each room, and that is not likely going to happen for these dates for a 3.5* or better Downtown hotel.  Also, you may or may not be able to get connecting rooms (or even ones that are next to each other), so unless the parents are willing to split up with one kid in each room, you could have another issue if the kids are too young to stay in a room by themselves.

Using our BiddingHelper.com tool i searched for your dates and none of the 3.5* PRICELINE EXPRESS offers in the Downtown Toronto Southwest - Entertainment & Financial Districts zone offers a room choice of two beds in the room.  Unfortunately the same goes for HOTWIRE when searching for 1room/2adults... and changing the search to 1room/2adults/2children the least expensive 3.5* or better property in the Downtown West zone is priced at $195/nite:

3.5* HOTWIRE Downtown Toronto West for $195.00
Free Internet
Indoor Pool
Fitness
Pool
Restaurant
Business
Hi-Speed Internet
Golf
Room Accessible
==> best guess would be the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Toronto Downtown

If you're willing to look at the other downtown zones i also see this (2adults/2children search):

4* HOTWIRE Downtown Toronto East for $181.00
Free Internet
Suite
Smoke Free
Fitness
Restaurant
Business
Laundry
Hi-Speed Internet
Golf
Kitchenette
Room Accessible
==> looks to be the Cambridge Suites Hotel - Toronto which isn't too far from the Downtown West zone, gets great reviews, and might work well for your plans given the extra rooom

If staying below $150 is the primary objective there is also this offer:

3.5* Downtown Toronto East for $146.00
Free Internet
Indoor Pool
Smoke Free
Fitness
Pool
Restaurant
Laundry
Hi-Speed Internet
Deaf Accessible
Travel Accessible
Room Accessible
Bathroom Accessible
Handicapped Parking
Roll-in Shower
==> Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Toronto would be my best guess here
