sequitur Posted January 1, 2017 Report Posted January 1, 2017 Looking at April 8-10 (and also 12-15) in zone "city center - gran via..." for 2 adults/2 kids (does that make help impossible?), and getting this property pretty consistently: $200 Pet friendly Restaurant Free Internet Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities Business Center Self-serve laundry 85% recommended another one one that comes up (this time using dates 4/14-15) in zone "Barrio Salamanca (shopping)..." $243/night Restaurant Free Internet Fitness Center Smoke free Rooms Business Center Self-serve laundry spa services children's activities 100% in the reviews, one of them mentions being across from and embassy in a side street. Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 2, 2017 Report Posted January 2, 2017 I see 3 different travel dates for the hotel(s) above... will you need rooms in Madrid for all 3 sets of dates OR are your plans for this trip not yet firm? sequitur Posted January 2, 2017 Author Report Posted January 2, 2017 Dates in Madrid are firm: 4/8-15, but I supplied dates for specific searches I'd conducted for convenience of reproducing my results (since prices change based on dates selected). I'd really like to see if a claimed 53% discount on the latter property is legit by checking rack rates after identifying the property.

Are you looking/willing to split this stay into multiple purchases and change properties mid-trip? If so, how many times are you willing to change? I'm not quite sure of what you're trying to achieve by searching for the subset of your dates. 1 hour ago, sequitur said: I'd really like to see if a claimed 53% discount on the latter property is legit I can quickly answer that by telling you that it's not... because that is not what HOTWIRE is indicating here. Note that the crossed out rate is an average price of hotels of this star rating in the zone for your dates, NOT necessarily the rate of the hotel currently being offered. What exactly is it that you're looking for in a hotel for this trip? (and is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID desirable in order to stay in two different areas of the city OR would you only be willing to do so in order to save money OR is changing hotels not really an option at all??) sequitur Posted January 2, 2017 Author Report Posted January 2, 2017 I'm looking at 2 date ranges because I'd planned 2 or 3 days at Toledo in between. I'm flexible on the before and after, but just wanted help with the ID because they appear in search results both before and after the Toledo leg. Thanks for explaining the crossed out price - I never knew. Through your sister site there are many 5-star places for well under $200, making HOTWIRE not necessarily such great deals.
thereuare Posted January 3, 2017 Report Posted January 3, 2017 I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you search using the EASY VIEW TAB of our BiddingHelper.com tool. (always use this method for your searches/purchases) Repeating your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... using the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then clicking the GREEN BUTTON next to each of these listings, i see the following: 5* City Centre - Gran Via - Sol - Plaza Mayor - La Latina for $199.00 (April 8-10) Free Internet Pet Friendly Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Travel Accessible ==> Villa Real Hotel would be my best guess for this one (i did not check for April 12-15 but can do so if this turns out to be a viable option once your dates are firm those dates) 5* Barrio Salamanca (Shopping) - Avenida America - Ventas Bullfight Ring for $266.00 Free Internet Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Spa Childrens Activities ==> my best guess for this one would be the Barcelo Emperatriz Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. sequitur Posted January 4, 2017 Author Report Posted January 4, 2017 Very helpful. $199 at first seemed pretty good, but the whole point of ID is to compare to the hotel's own website, and in this case the Hotwire price with fees is $711, vs €818 direct (which includes other incentives like wine, cocktails and water), so with the added uncertainty of bed type when you have 4 people (kids have really complicated travel plans as they've aged), Hotwire makes less sense for this trip. Thanks again for explaining that the discounts aren't property-specific (posting to this site for years, I never knew that). I'm finding some good 4* offerings at places like "petit palace" and "Madrid smart rentals" that are more suitable with bunk beds for kids, and for under $200.
