Hi, Can anyone please advise on what might be an appropriate bid for a 4* Copley on Sept 12th for three nights? I'm not sure if this date is a very busy time of year, some people have commented that a lot of parents are in town with their kids starting colleges. I have been checking hotel prices on tripadvisor.com and it looks like average price of a 4* is almost $300 per night. After seeing some of the bargain prices on your site i tried bidding using a strategy posted here. I am pretty new at this so i am still a little unsure of how things work so please excuse me if i don't make any sense.

I tried using the following:

4* Copley 9/12 3nights

1st bid $91 rejected

4* Copley + 1st zone

2nd bid $110 rejected

4* Copley + 2nd zone

3rd bid $125 rejected

4* Copley + 2nd & 1st zones

4th bid $145 rejected

Not sure what to do next. Any idea what might be a winning price? Am i not winning because the date is quite far away? Does it make a difference that i am looking for 2 rooms at the same time? I am probably willing to pay up to $200 per room per night.

If you need any more info please ask. Your help is greatly appreciated.

A couple of nights ago.

One question about the 72hr period before re-bidding, after i made my last bid i did't get anything to tell me that i would need to wait 72hrs before i could rebid. Was it the case that if i had of tried at that stage to bid again it would have told me i couldn't do so?

Thanks for your response.

Hi, actually I got on here to post some good information. I just got back from Boston where I stayed 2 nights at Copley/Back Bay and I then stayed 2 nights in the financial District. I used Priceline to obtain my room, as I got the same thing from trip advisor for rates and did not want to spend that much money. My first advise is to read as much as you can on here before chosing an area where you will find the best hotel for the price, look for reviews on hotels to avoid etc.. I went on here, yahoo, trip advisor etc to locate the district I wanted and then bidded on the hotels in that area. Copley and back bay and all the districts are very close and the subway (T) is also available if you don't get as close to the area as you would like. I bidded $ 80 the first time and got The Colonades hotel. They say it is a 4 star, but I am here to tell you I would rate it a 2.5 or maybe a 3. It was discusting and so were most of the hotels in the Copley area. They were older chain hotels. The room was small, mold growing etc. The second bid was $ 95 for my second hotel on priceline and area was financial district. We got The Hyatt ( not riverside) and it was a blessing. It was immaculant, very very nice 4 star hotel convienant, feather down beds, absolutely beautiful. The hotels in this area seem to be better and you can chose the area on priceline. Good luck.

Jenn507, Many Thanks for the info regarding Copley 4* Hotels.

I checked another Forum on this site which reffered to hotels that some people had been allocated in the Copley Area... See Below (Sorry, i couldn't work out how to link to another topic)

Boston (Copley)

4* Colonnade Hotel REVIEW / tripadvisor review

4* Fairmont Copley Plaza tripadvisor review

4* Marriott tripadvisor review

4* Sheraton Boston REVIEW / tripadvisor review

4* Westin REVIEW / tripadvisor review

After checking various reviews i thought these were quite good. Although i take your comments about the Colonnade Hotel.

ThereUAre...

My first choice of area would be Copley following by Downtown which seems to have a good selection of 4* hotels and also seems like another well located area for sightseeing etc......

I await your advice regarding bidding. With regards to my earlier posts, do think i'll be able to get something under $200? Is there something special about these dates? Am i bidding to early?

Cheers

What is more important, price or zone? (ie- would you pay $200 for a room in Copley if one was available for $150 in the Downtown area)

Boston is notoriously expensive (imo) and you have already eluded to at least one reason above for higher than usual demand... as there are so many colleges in this area that alone could easily drive up prices.

I am looking for 2 rooms, 4* only in either area, Copley & Downtown. My first choice would be Copley but as you mentioned if it worked out that Downtown was easier to obtain at a better price then it would make more sense to go for that. As you and others have mentioned public transport provides easy access to the city so we can visit the back bay area easily. I am ok bidding up to $200 per room per night.
