Cegasaturn Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 I am trying to book a room on the the Las Vegas Strip (so Strip North and Strip South), checking in on 2/17 and checking out on 2/20. I used the method described in the Bidding Again before 24 hours post, and had offers rejected of a 5* hotel for $110, and a 4.5* hotel for $95. The 5* bids were shots in the dark (went $90 -> $100 -> $110), but I was surprised to have the $95 bid rejected for a 4.5* hotel. Priceline has a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal with a 4.5* hotel for $115/night. My first question is a more general one. Given that my trip is a few months out, is it worth retrying every few days to see if I can book a room with a high star rating in this price range? I don't know how much variation there is, so if anyone has tried this I would be happy to hear from them! Second, I would like some help ID'ing the hotel in the Express Deal I mentioned earlier. Details below: Price: $115/night Stars: 4.5 Location: Las Vegas Strip South Amenities: Business Center, Restaurant, Free Internet, Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Casino, Fitness Center, No Smoking Rooms/Facilities Thank you for your help!
AaronJB Posted December 16, 2016 Report Posted December 16, 2016 Welcome to Betterbidding. I'm seeing (please confirm that the correct dates are showing on the detail page after clicking the link.) 4.5* Las Vegas Strip South for $115 Business Center Restaurant Free Internet Indoor or Outdoor Pool Casino Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities >>>My guess would be the Signature At MGM. You're probably not far off on the bid, I'd say $97, $100, $102, $105 and hopefully it doesn't take that high. The concern that I have with waiting is that while you wait and try to get a lower rate than the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal, rates could absolutely go up and do so suddenly. Rates do not always go lower closer to the dates, especially if it's a busy period. Additionally, the hotel showing on PRICELINE EXPRESS is not necessarily what you may get via bidding, so if a hotel is $10-15 more than what you have bid and you like the potential PRICELINE EXPRESS listing, it may be worth it to go with that rather than risking bidding and potentially getting something you're not as happy with. Let us know your thoughts and if you have any questions on the above and we would be happy to offer further suggestions. Also, if you are looking for a particular type of hotel (location, style, or other factors) let us know and we can then research and offer suggestions based on what you are looking for. Cegasaturn Posted December 16, 2016 Author Report Posted December 16, 2016 Hey! Thanks for the welcome! Trying to lock in an offer now makes sense. And given the difference between the bid I had made and the Express deal, that is exactly why I wanted to try and identify it before bidding higher. I don't know anything about the hotel, but I would prefer to be close to the middle of the strip, all else equal. I think I'd benefit from taking a step back and hearing your advice. I know I would like to book a one room (two occupants) in a hotel on the Strip. I had planned on spending ~$500, but of course would prefer to spend less. I had not been considering 4* hotels, as the Express deals for 4* and 4.5* were the same. That said, if 4* hotels can be found for less (through Name Your Own Price), I would be fine with one as well. What would you recommend as a reasonable starting bid for a 4* hotel? We plan on walking around, so I don't mind having a hotel versus a hotel/casino. I had no particular amenities, just a nice room and hotel. While not the correct forum, there is a 4* hotel on HOTWIRE for $69 a night. I am not sure if it is worth creating a new post in that forum though. Would you be able to ID it, or should I post it there? Thanks again!
thereuare Posted December 16, 2016 Report Posted December 16, 2016 Many users prefer to avoid The Trump as it's slightly off-strip and they don't have a casino, but perhaps this would work for your needs if you plan on being out of the hotel most of the day anyways (they do offer scheduled shuttle service to the strip, but if you wanted to walk it's about 10 minutes to Wynn or Treasure Island (both of which can make the walk a bit nicer by walking thru the Fashion Show Mall across the street from Trump). Confirm your dates on the landing page, but i believe the one below would likely be The Trump: 5* Las Vegas Strip North for $147 Pets Allowed Free Parking Business Center Restaurant Free Internet Indoor or Outdoor Pool Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities You could also consider this one (again, confirm your dates on the landing page): 5* Las Vegas Strip South for $156 Pets Allowed Business Center Free Internet Indoor or Outdoor Pool Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> The Vdara would be my best guess here which i think would suit your needs well. It's well located mid-strip and one of the newer Vegas properties. The issue that you will have with bidding is that you then have to accept a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone that you bid, which at the 4* level in the Strip North zone includes SLS Las Vegas which is not really what most consider to be "the strip" and probably not the location you're seeking. Same goes for the South Strip, where you could get something as far south as Mandalay Bay (which is generally considered to be part of the strip) but it's at the very southern and end not the most convenient if you're plan is to hotel/casino hop for most of the day. As well, the star rating you choose on PRICELINE is the minimum that you're willing to accept, so if the Trump is not acceptable, your 4* (or 4.5*) bid in the Strip North zone could always be upgraded to a higher rated hotel in the zone, such as The Trump. You can't link to HOTWIRE search results as you tried to do above (i removed the broken link from your post) but assuming this was the HOTWIRE offer you' were seeing (you'll need to search using our BiddingHelper.com tool and clicking the GREEN "See All Amenities" button in the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab): 4* North Strip - Fashion Show Mall for $69.00 Free Parking Free Internet Resort Boutique Casino Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Golf Spa ==> best guess here would be the SLS, which i commented on above Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Let us know how you'd like to proceed (and how it goes if you take one of the options above) and we'll take it from there. Cegasaturn Posted December 16, 2016 Author Report Posted December 16, 2016 Thanks for the response! Based on your feedback, I will avoid using the Name Your own Price for now, and the SLS is a bit too far from the rest of the strip for my liking. Out of the two 5* options, I would certainly prefer the Vdara. That said, it is outside of my original budget. While I could spring for it, if there's a reasonable 4* hotel available for less that would be preferred. There are two 4* Priceline Express offers, as well six 4* offers on Hotwire (aside from the one already discussed). I have detailed the two Priceline Express offers below. Would you be able to ID them? 4* Las Vegas Strip South for $108 Business Center Free Internet Indoor or Outdoor Pool Casino Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities 4* Las Vegas Strip North for $121 Pets Allowed Free Parking Business Center Restaurant Airport Shuttle Indoor or Outdoor Pool Casino Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities With your permission, I will post the Hotwire offers in this thread. If not, I can create a thread in the Hotwire - Nevada section.
thereuare Posted December 16, 2016 Report Posted December 16, 2016 The 4* PRICELINE EXPRESS property above at $108 is likely the Mandalay Bay Resort And Casino. The other 4* if you click the link you get a message that it is no longer available. I am seeing this one at $127/nite (confirm your dates on the landing page): 4* Las Vegas Strip North for $127 Pets Allowed Free Parking Business Center Restaurant Airport Shuttle Indoor or Outdoor Pool Casino Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> best guess here would be The Linq You can post HOTWIRE hotels here but i did look there earlier (as well as at the $108/nite hotel above) and didn't see anything that i thought would be better than what i had recommended above. The 4* at $127/nite is 'new' vs. my previous search, but i would still favor the guessed Vdara for an extra $25/nite... although The Linq has a good strip location and was recently renovated, if that is all your budget will allow (but still a wide margin between it and 5* properties, which is why i think the $25 is worth it for what is believed to be The Vdara). I am very familiar with Las Vegas, and it can often be quicker and easier to find hotels that meet your needs (we can often tell very quickly just by looking) than to research hotels and type out a reply explaining each property asked about... if the previous hotels guessed above dont' work fir your needs, if you could let us know a bit more about what it is that you don't like about them we can be in a better position to find you something that does work for you needs.
