KatyRobbins Posted November 17, 2016 Report Posted November 17, 2016 I am headed to the city Thurs Dec 8th for one night. I usually stay in K-town but I really don't want to pay the 275+ for one night at my usual hotel. Any ideas on how to get a cheap hotel in the area? I'm really eyeing the Stanford Hotel because it's in K-town and I am comfortable with that area. I would be open to areas: Empire State Building, Midtown West, Madison Sq Garden and Chelsea. Is it best to use name your own price or express deal? And wait until the same day or day before? Or should I start bidding now? I see a person in this thread got Stanford hotel fro $110 - that's a steal!
thereuare Posted November 17, 2016 Report Posted November 17, 2016 Welcome to BetterBidding! Out of curiosity (and so i can get a sense of the type of hotel you typically stay at) what is the usual hotel you stay at in this area? Rates are date specific, and you nite above is one of the most expensive during the seasonally high holiday season (if you delayed your trip 1 week you would see a sharp drop in rates) so i wouldn't expect to come near that $110/nite rate that the other user won for dates earlier in the season (and for a Sunday nite which is the slowest day of the week for hotels in NYC). What do you consider to be a 'cheap' hotel in this area for this nite? I do see this 2.5* Empire State Building Area (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $176 Business Center Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> my guess here would be the Hotel Wolcott, which would put you directly in the heart of Koreatown, but is 2.5* rated, so not sure if this will work for your needs or not At 3 stars and above i'm seeing (again, confirm your dates on the landing page of any links provided): 3* Empire State Building Area for $219 Pets Allowed No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> best guess would be the Nh Jolly Hotel Madison Towers 4* Madison Square Garden - Convention Area for $224 Pets Allowed Business Center Restaurant Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> Wyndham New Yorker Hotel would be my best guess here Bidding on PRICELINE is usually slightly less expensive than PRICELINE EXPRESS, but when bidding you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you bid, whereas with PRICELINE EXPRESS you have the ability to take a guess as to the hotel you may receive, as well as know a little more about the hotel, such as a user review rating, which can help you avoid any 'bad' (or the last favorable) hotels in the zone. As far as when to bid, there is know fixed answer to this, as nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your trip. However, i will add that with this being a peak nite (from a demand perspective) i would be less inclined to wait until the last minute and be ready to commit when you find a deal that offers some good savings based upon the current retail prices. Do any of the offers above, work for your needs? KatyRobbins Posted November 17, 2016 Author Report Posted November 17, 2016 Thank you! I know it's cheaper the following week but unfortunately I can't change it. I'm going to NJ for business and am spending one night in the city for pleasure. I usually stay at LQ Manhattan or NYMA (NewYork manhattan) Both apple core hotels. Nothing fancy but I love the location and the roof top bars they offer. I'm not afraid of a sub-par hotel for one night. I'm more concerned about location and easy access to the subway. Ideally I'd like to pay no more than $150 which is so hard this time of year. I booked a hotel via booking.com as a back up in case I end up not getting a deal through priceline. I'm not giving up just yet. I'm going to look into hotel Wolcott. Do you have any idea what Hotwire's 3-star Boutique Hotel in Empire State Building area is? It's showing for $159/night.
