I agree the savings are Great. I want to book it but the trip isn't 100% yet 

 

What's your experience with cancelling on hotwire or priceline if need should arise 

What do you recommend is best thing I do?

I would suggest waiting until your plans are firm (or at least a very low probability of needing to cancel), as PRICELINE / HOTWIRE allowing you to cancel would be an 'exception to the rule' and no assurance you would be able to do so..
