Hotwire Hotel: 4* New York City (Union Square - Flatiron) The Roger

Will be in NYC 10/7-10/9 and need a hotel in Manhattan that can provide a crib for an infant. 2 adults. A little nervous to book on hotwire/priceline without knowing if a crib is a possibility -- I have yet to find an amenities list that mentions this.

Would like to keep budget to $250/night.

Any insight provided would be great. Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

While PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, HOTWIRE will guarantee sleeping accommodations for everyone that you include in your search (up to quad occupancy per room).  However, HOTWIRE defines 'children' as ages 2-17, so my suggestion would be to use HOTWIRE and search for 2adults/0children (since i'm assuming your infant is under 2 years old)

Once you make a purchase call the hotel and let them know that you have an infant traveling with you and need a crib.  If any issues (hotel doesn't have crib's onhand, can't guarantee a crib, etc) then call HOTWIRE and let them know that you searched given their parameters and didn't include your baby since s/he is under 2 years old, but now the hotel says that the room assigned can't accommodate your family.

So a slight risk in the above in that you would need to deal with getting the issue resolved should the hotel you receive not be able to accommodate your needs (and i can't speak for HOTWIRE on how they would handle this situation, but i think you would have a very good leg to stand on and in the past they have been very good in circumstances such as this)... and a risk i would be willing to take.

What was your desired and/or minimum star rating for this trip?

Thanks for the quick reply. I believe that both Intercontinental Barclay and the Redbury are on hotwire right now based on the amenities lists, and more or less within my budget for a 4-star. I called both and they can provide a crib. That said, if you have recommendations for a 4+ star property that is less than $630 all-in for those dates, I'm all ears. $500-600 would be better.

I'm seeing what looks like the Wyndham Garden Chinatown for $231/nite ($600 all-in) for your dates, but if the InterContinental Barclay is offered at $630 all-in i think that would be worth the extra few dollars given that it's recently renovated and the reviews since then have been excellent.

If you'd like us to confirm or give our thoughts on the property you believe is The Barclay (or the Redbury) please confirm the full details/amenities and we'll have a look.

Intercontinental Barclay?

4.5 stars

Grand Central North area New to Hotwire

FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Tennis nearby, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower

$256/night, $650.61 total

Redbury (I like the location...)?

4 stars

4-star Boutique Hotel in Union Square - Flatiron area

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Boutique hotel, Airport shuttle, Fitness center, Internet access

$240/night (has gone up $10 since i looked earlier, ugh), $676.88 total

If there's a 3-3.5 star at a lower rate that you think is nice I could probably be convinced. Or if I should wait longer to book...don't know if it's typical for prices to drop.

I agree with your guess of the InterContinental for the Grand Central North property.

The Union Square hotel is likely the Redbury, but note there is a $30/nite resort fee that is payable directly to the hotel.

I'm not seeing anything at the 3*/3.5* level that would be enough of a discount vs. the InterContinental Barclay to make it worthwhile, imo. (especially given the post-renovation reviews)

If you choose to wait you run the risk that rates go up from here (instead of down).

Exciting update, maybe? Didn't get around to booking this weekend. Fired up hotwire this morning and found this:

The Roger?

4 stars

4-star Boutique Hotel in Union Square - Flatiron area

FULL AMENITIES: Boutique hotel, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower

$400.09 inc $30/day resort fee

Thoughts on this property? I called to confirm that they have a crib on request. I read some reviews that remarked on thin walls/noise, which is concerning, although saving more than $200 over the next lowest property might make that palatable? I don't know.

IC Barclay is now $665.61all-in. ($625.78 on PRICELINE EXPRESS though)

Yes, my guess for the HOTWIRE offer above would be a new amenity set for The Roger.

Personally i'd go with this one and pocket the $200 savings in order to do something extra special (splurge on something you wouldn't ordinarily do) while in the city to make the trip that much more memorable.
