LNahid2000 Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 I'm trying to get the best price for a hotel on the night of February 25th in either Downtown LA or Hollywood. I'd like to get the best hotel I can for under $60. I've never bid on priceline before. How should I go about bidding? Thanks!EDIT: I forgot to add that I need 3 rooms for the night.
thereuare Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 Welcome to BetterBidding! At the 4* level in Los Angeles you have four re-bid zone zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Downtown...Bid $48, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $52, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60.Any questions feel free to ask.I think your chances with the above are very good, but if rejected we'll then revise the strategy for a 3* property.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. LNahid2000 Posted February 11, 2006 Author Report Posted February 11, 2006 One thing I don't understand. Let's say I add the downtown zone first and bid, then add the hollywood zone and bid. Would I add another zone next? Doesn't that mean I'm not guaranteed to stay in either the downtown or hollywood zones? Or am I just missing something.
thereuare Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 If you're bidding 4* the Hollywood zone (as of this writing) has no 4* properties.Did you read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained link? LNahid2000 Posted February 11, 2006 Author Report Posted February 11, 2006 Oh, I think I get it now after reading it for the 5th time. To clarify, if I bid 4* for downtown and then added Hollywood and bid for 4* again, the Hollywood zone isn't really counted since they have no 4* properties. I can then add a zone such as Culver City and bid for a 4* and since they also don't have 4* properties, I'm really only bidding downtown again. If this is how it works, it makes sense now. Very cool!
thereuare Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 Yup, you got it now :)Do you want to confirm your four re-bid zones (you have already confirmed two of them). Two things to note:1) The star rating you select is the minimum that you are willing to accept. So if a zone had 5* properties but no 4* properties, it would not be a re-bid zone (since priceline could upgrade your 4* bid to a 5* property). This doesn't necessarily apply to your current situation, but didn't want you to make a mistake on a future bid2) Hotels are added/removed/upgraded/downgraded all teh time, so you should check your re-bid zones before each bidding cycle to make sure they still qualify. LNahid2000 Posted February 11, 2006 Author Report Posted February 11, 2006 I've already learned how to find my bidding zones so I'm good there. One more question. How would I go about bidding if I want to pay a maximum of $50? And what would my chances be? One of the couples we're going with is very frugal and doesn't want to pay more than that so I'm thinking of trying that instead. I won't be bidding till tomorrow when I get everything confirmed with the other 2 couples.
thereuare Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 At $50 your chances decrease dramatically. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
LNahid2000 Posted February 11, 2006 Author Report Posted February 11, 2006 Okay, thanks! I'll just tell them that they're not going to get a hotel for $50 :). $60 is a great deal anyway since the best I could find on other sites is a Days Inn for $55 with reviews saying that the rooms had cockroaches.
LNahid2000 Posted February 13, 2006 Author Report Posted February 13, 2006 We've had a change in plans. Now we're not going to book a hotel until we get to Vegas on the 22nd. If I book on the night of the 22nd, would my chances of getting a hotel change?
thereuare Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Your chance may not change at all, but if they do change it will more likely be for the worse. What is the point of waiting?
