dakotan Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Hi, I've had great success with priceline on previous hotel bookings. But for some reason I'm having some difficulty finding a room (within price range) this time. The time frame to go is a long ways away, but I've already booked the airline tickets and this trip is for honeymoon purposes (so I'm going for sure).I really want to stay in the Midtown West region since it seems like that is the best spot. Star ranges are 4 or 3 1/2 star would be fine. I've offered 100 at each star level but got denied. Is the rebidding option still a available? Is it too early for hotels to decide whether or not to accpet offers?
thereuare Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Welcome to BetterBidding! When did you last bid the above? How did you bid 3.5* when Priceline doesn't have a 3.5* level? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dakotan Posted February 9, 2006 Author Report Posted February 9, 2006 I made the bid yesterday afternoon. I meant to say 3* upscale.I'm thinking I'll continue to keep it in the $100 to $105 range for a while yet since I have so much time.ps. great site, been very helpful!!
dakotan Posted February 11, 2006 Author Report Posted February 11, 2006 Almost got a hotel today on hotwire for $103. It was in Midtown and the description sounded like the Sheraton New York. Only problem is after I submitted my information I received a message saying that offer was no longer available. Guess tomorrow I'll try priceline again using some rebidding techniques.
dakotan Posted February 22, 2006 Author Report Posted February 22, 2006 Tried up to $140 with no luck. Looks like I'm going to have to spend some money in order to get a 4*. I'll probably just get a 3* for those first 2 nights then try and get a 4* for the last two nights. How much should I expect to pay for a 3* during this time period?
thereuare Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 It's still very early... in prior years these dates were very expensive, in some years dropping a few weeks before arrival date when demand didn't come in as strong as expected, in other years rates remained high and never dropped.I would find a cancellable back-up (see our SUPPORT PAGE for hotel-direct links) and then look to get more serious about this in mid/late summer. dakotan Posted February 27, 2006 Author Report Posted February 27, 2006 I've been looking at this 3* for $133 in Midtown central for the same dates. Just curious if you might know what hotel this is? I'm thinking Park Central but not positive. thanks
thereuare Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 What 3* in midtown central? For $133 is it an option for you? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dakotan Posted February 27, 2006 Author Report Posted February 27, 2006 It's on hotwire as a 3* for $133. I realize that this time period can be very expensive to get hotels so I'm thinking about taking this offer. Also seems like every once and a while I'll see a great rate like $104 for a 4* in midtown on hotwire for these dates, but after I've entered my information they tell me the offer is no longer available. Is that common?(figured I'd just ask on this thread instead of starting a new topic on the hotwire board)
thereuare Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 We'll need to know the amenities that Hotwire associates with the 3* hotel in order to try to identify it for you. What you describe happening with the 4* property is not common, but it has happened before. Sometimes it could be somebody else snapping up the deal before you get all of your information entered, but more often it is a stale quote on the system. dakotan Posted February 28, 2006 Author Report Posted February 28, 2006 The 3* for $133 has a restaurant and fitness center.
thereuare Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Besides the Park Central, this is also a match for the Holiday Inn Midtown, so either of those would be our best guess.
