I am a first time bidder on Priceline. My wife is coming in off a late flight on March 10th and I thought it would be fun to stay the night downtown and then go see some sights the next day.

I am looking for a 4* in the loop (since it's close to Shedd aquarium or the Field museum), but would consider other 4* areas that are convienient and accesible via public transportation such as N. Mich Ave., Greater Chicago, and O'Hare. In that order. My greatest concern is getting a 4* for for the most economical price. (we are poor grad students) I would prefer to stay below $80 (before taxes). It doesn't look like there are too many conventions going on that week.

I have done the following so far.

Chicago 4* March 10th, 2006

Bid Loop: $50, rejected

added re-bid #1: $60 rejected

closed browser

Bid Loop and re-bid #2:$65, rejected

Bid Loop, re-bid #1 and #2,: $70 rejected

Then I decided to ask you all.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

My next step would be to bid as follows:

Bid Loop: $55, rejected

added re-bid #1: $60 rejected

closed browser

Bid Loop and re-bid #2:$65, rejected

Bid Loop, re-bid #1 and #2,: $70 rejected

If the above is rejected you'll have to make a decision. Personally i think the Loop and NMA zones are much more convenient than the Greater Chicago and ORD zone (an hour commute on the L is easily do-able, but not really what i call convenient)... would you want to then bid higher for the NMA and Loop zone or try lower for the Greater Chicago or ORD zone?

Perhaps you're right, a 1 hour EL ride isn't ideal.

I'm a little confused as to your bidding strategy. It dosen't seem to take advantage of the NMA area.

If Loop and NMA are my #1 choices then should I do the following?

close browser

Bid NMA:$60

Bid NMA+re-bid #1: $65

close browser

Bid NMA+re-bid #2: $67

Bid NMA+Re-bid #1: $70

Close browser

Bid NMA+Loop: $73

Bid NMA+Loop+re-bid #1: $75

Close broswer

Bid NMA+Loop+re-bid #2: $77

Bid NMA+Loop+re-bid #1: $80

If I can't get a 4* in Loop or NMA for $80, can I then try a similar bidding strategy with ORD and Greater Chicago and a lower price? What is resonable for that area?

Sorry about that, I copied and pasted from your post without editing the zones, should be:

My next step would be to bid as follows:

Bid NMA: $55, rejected

added re-bid #1: $60 rejected

closed browser

Bid NMA and re-bid #2:$65, rejected

Bid NMA, re-bid #1 and #2,: $70 rejected

If the above fails then i would weigh your options regarding combining the bids as you suggest above OR trying first for the Greater Chicago area.

Second times a charm!

I got the Palmer house Hilton for $85!

Here's what I did:

Bid NMA:$60

Bid NMA+re-bid #1: $65

close browser

Bid NMA+re-bid #2: $70

Bid NMA+Re-bid #1: $75

Close browser

Bid NMA+Loop: $80 was offered a rebid for $22 more and declined

Bid NMA+Loop+re-bid #1: $85 and was accepted!

Thanks for your help!

4* Chicago Downtown both NMA and Loop

with combination of Re-bid #1 and #2

Stay 3/10~3/12

Tried from $60 to $89. All REJECTED!!!

A little jealous that you got $85.

Is it because of St. Patrick's day?!?
