Hi!  We are looking for 3 night stay (Aug 9-12). We've been to NYC over 12 times...the last few times, we've stayed in 2.5* in Long Island City (near subways. ie. Nesva). For some odd reason this year, even those budget hotels are getting more expensive. Given we're paying in CAD, we have to factor in at least 35% extra for the USD exchange, so we are aiming at something less than 125$ USD.   Is it even possible to be in Manhattan for that price.

I have searched a thousand times through Priceline & Hotwire and can't land on anything for those days for the target budget.  We are happy to stay anywhere, uptown/dowtown and Queens if near a subway, 2 or 3*.

Thank you!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I'm seeing quite a few options within your budget (confirm your dates on the landing pages):

3* Upper West Side hotel for $107/nite

3.5* Long Island City hotel for $109/nite

==> unfortunately i don't have any insight as to which property either of these may be

2.5* Lower East Side - Chinatown for $127/nite with:

Free Internet
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
==> Soho Garden Hotel would be my best guess for this one

If you're willing to increase your budget there is a 4* in the MSG zone (likely the Wyndham New Yorker which may or may not charge an additional 'resort fee') or a 4* Downtown-Wall St hotel for $150 (that i'm guessing is the Club Quarters Wall Street)

I'm also seeing a 4* hotel on HOTWIRE in the Lower East Side zone for $134/nite with:

Free Internet

Fitness

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

==> best guess here would be the Holiday Inn NYC - Lower East Side which, with a 4.5/5.0 TA rating, gets excellent reviews and may be worth the extra $10/nite in order to have the higher star rating and excellent reviews?

Soho in Chinatown is not appealing. As for the 3* at $107 in Upper West Side, I'm still hesitating. Priceline indicates it's a 30% off deal from regular price when I try looking up 3* hotels in that area for that price range, I only find hotels that would be near Harlem, and that's a little far off.

No one has ever reported a 3* win in Upper West Side here before?

As per the Priceline Hote List there have been 3* hotels reported to the board (perhaps not thru PRICELINE EXPRESS though)... it's not a very popular zone for the average tourist since it goes pretty far north (although not has far as is used to since Morningstar Heights was added as a new zone).

I took a new look and a guess for this 3* Upper West Side hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) with Business and No Smoking amenities would be the Astor on the Park.

That's indeed way too far - I'd be better in Queens at that point.  I did come across the Milburn hotel which appears to be a 3* and location is way better.  I'll keep looking. I actually have a room reserved as a back-up in Queens at $108/night which I can cancel if I find a better deal in the city! Thanks so much for the help...

... but i would still consider the Lower East Side Holiday Inn over the Milburn and anything in Long Island City.  It's very highly rated, in Manhattan, and worth the extra $20/nite or so.
