Mehoo23 Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 Hi! I'm looking for a 4* hotel in Times Square or Rockefeller Center June 9-14. My budget is $150/night and so far I haven't had much luck with name your price or on Priceline Express. I'm open to expanding my search to include other areas (Madison Square Gardens or Midtown East or West) or upping my budget if needbe (seems like hotels are all high that weekend). I'm going to be there on my own for part of this trip so I wanted to stay somewhere where it would be relatively safe to walk around at night if I'm coming back from a show. Thank you so much for your help!
thereuare Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 Welcome to BetterBidding! While not 4 star rated, i do see this 3.5* Times Square hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $148/nite with amenities of Business and Fitness and an 8+ user review rating... my best guess for this property would be the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square, which if correct gets very good reviews and would put you close to the theater. (should it ultimately be something different the zone is geographically small so you know it will be well located and you have the 'safety net' of the very good 8+ user review rating) Does this sound like a good option or would you prefer to raise your budget and/or look outside of the Times Square and Rock Center zones? (where i think you would need a bid of $150-$170 to be successful for a 4* hotel in these zones... or $140-$160 if you include other nearby zones (although i'll note that at the low end of the rage would be the Wyndham New Yorker which charges a resort fee.. so even at $140 + $25 resort fee you're near the $170 mark) Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Mehoo23 Posted June 2, 2016 Author Report Posted June 2, 2016 Thank you so much for your help! The Hilton Garden Inn does look like a pretty good option and that's a good price for our budget. Any idea why the prices are so high that weekend? I've seen winning bids that are much lower recently but I just tried bidding up to $160 and still no luck. In the past, I've had better success with nearby zones when I can't get something in Times Square. Is there anything else that you would recommend in a nearby zone or for a higher price (I could go up to $170) or do you think that the 3.5 express deal would be our best bet?
AaronJB Posted June 3, 2016 Report Posted June 3, 2016 On HOTWIRE, I'm seeing: 4* TS North $149 (Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower) -- Not yet ID"d, but I'll guess the Hotel Manhattan at TS may have been upgraded. Unfortunately, that's the only Midtown option under $150. The potential Hilton Garden Inn mentioned above certainly gets better reviews. Rates are somewhat on the high side, but that may be a combination of something may be going on along with seasonality. The latter part of the Summer does get a little slower/less expensive before prices and traffic pick up in the early Fall and until around mid-December. Mehoo23 Posted June 4, 2016 Author Report Posted June 4, 2016 The PRICELINE EXPRESS hotel you recommended disappeared today - otherwise I would have booked it. I tried bidding again and we got the Club Quarters Midtown for $160. That hotel is listed as 3.5 stars on your hotel list and as 3 stars on other sites, so I'm a bit confused as to how I got it when I selected 4*. I'm going to call Priceline in the morning to inquire. The hotel looks ok and the location is great but some of the negative reviews are a bit of a concern.
thereuare Posted June 4, 2016 Report Posted June 4, 2016 Congratulations on your success!PRICELINE may have recently upgraded this property based upon feedback from their own users and/or any changes that may have taken place at the hotel. Star ratings are subjective, and unfortunately there is no industry standard for what criteria is needed to achieve a certain star level, so it's fairly common for star ratings to differ from one booking service to the next (although to their credit, PRICELINE's are usually pretty accurate and inline with most other booking companies) Thank you for sharing your win with the board and helping us update the Priceline Hotel List with the new star rating for this property.
