annwitz Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I am looking for a 3* room in downtown Toronto From March 2-5, have tried bidding three times with no success so am now hoping someone here can help me out.All three attempts, I took advantage of free rebids & bid on these zones in this order:1) Downtown 2) Rebid, Downtown + Scarborough3) New bid, Downtown + Toronto East4) Rebid, Downtown + Torronto East + ScarboroughFirst time I really lowballed, $34, $37, $40, $42Second time, $40, $43, $45, $48Third time, $48, $50, $52 (didn't use fourth try)On my last bid I received the reply that if I added $15 to my bid I'd get a room; didn't do it.Based on looking at previous successful bids, I really thought that I'd have a room before I hit $50. Plus, Hotwire is showing a 3* for $58. I've never had to get so close to a Hotwire price before.Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
thereuare Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Welcome to BetterBidding! What is your maximum bid?It looks like rates are higher for the first nite of your stay, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID something you would consider? annwitz Posted February 5, 2006 Author Report Posted February 5, 2006 This time around we don't want to have to worry about switching hotels, so splitting the bid isn't an option.Let's say my maximum is $56. Since the Hotwire 3* at $58 has been available for over a week, I figure I'll take it if Priceline doesn't work out. Thanks!
thereuare Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 So add your last re-bid zone and bid $56... unless you really want to slice and dice this in order to save another $2/nite.Have you identified the 3* Hotwire hotel to make sure that it is equivalent to a 3* priceline property? Each service does not rate hotels in the same way, so you may not be making an apples-to-apples comparison. annwitz Posted February 5, 2006 Author Report Posted February 5, 2006 I did kinda try to figure out how comparable Hotwire vs. Priceline 3* would be in this situation, but I wasn't really sure. I came to the conclusion that the Marriott Courtyard was a likely candidate for either, but I'm not sure that's right. Can you provide any further insight/guidance?

thereuare Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 The above is a match for the Best Western Primrose, but i have reason to believe that it may also be the Days Hotel and Conference Center. Neither of these have been reported on Priceline so i don't know what they would be rated, but i would make sure you are comfortable with either of these (or some other hotel that Hotwire deemed to be 3*) in order to use the Hotwire hotel as the basis for your maximum Priceline bid.
