the_oswald
Hi there, My wife and I are travelling through San Diego 6/1 - 6/4 and are wanting to stay in the Mission Bay area of San Diego, so I'm looking for some bidding help on a good deal. One of our only concerns with booking blind in the area is the potential for hidden fees (resort fees, exorbitant parking fees etc.), would just booking through MapsAndHotels.com be better? Thanks for your help. Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! To get started.. what is your desired star rating and expected budget (before fees/taxes) for this trip? What do you consider to be a reasonable parking fee for this area? Exactly which zone(s), by PRICELINE name, are you willing to accept for this stay? Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. the_oswald
Thanks for the response! I'm looking for a 4*+ in the "Mission Beach - Ocean Beach - Pacific Beach" area. As far as a reasonable parking fee, after doing some test bidding and research with express deals, I noticed the fees end up rolled into the price, so whatever our reservation ends up being includes that cost, so I'm not as worried about that. 20-30 dollars seemed to be the norm. Our budget is no more than $200 a night after fees, but obviously we're looking for the best deal. Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
Need to backtrack a minute.... Using the QUICK QUOTE search box on the top left corner of the page and search for your dates (using either the BiddingHelper.com OR the PRICELINE button selected) Using the PRICELINE tab select 4* Mission Beach - Ocean Beach - Pacific Beach, enter whatever amount you'd like (as you're not submitting a bid just yet, i used $150 for the example below), and your name... then click PREVIEW BID. On the next page note that all expenses are broken down... room cost, taxes/fees, and an additional line item 'Hotel Fee' Offer Price Per Room, Per Night:US$ 150.00 Subtotal:US$ 450.00 Taxes and Service Fees:US$ 79.65 Total Room Charges*:US$ 529.65 Hotel Fee:US$ 91.00 Total Cost*:US$ 620.65 In this example if PRICELINE found a hotel to accept your $150 bid price the total amount charge to your credit card at this time would be $529.65. However, at the 4* level in this zone some hotels charge a resort fee which would be payable directly to the hotel upon check-out. The most this resort fee would be for this stay would be $91, of course if you win a hotel that doesn't charge a resort fee there would be nothing to pay directly to the hotel. This $91 is going to be a 'worst case scenario' and you won't know if none, part, of all of this amount will need to be paid until you learn the hotel that accepts your bid. (NOTE: this fee is the same fee that any guest would need to pay regardless of how they booked... it's not specific to only PRICELINE (or HOTWIRE) customers) So given the above, and the 'unknown' amount of $91... how much would you like to use as your maximum bid price? Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Let us know what questions you have and how you'd like to proceed and we will advise accordingly. the_oswald
Okay, I think I'm understanding how it works. Thanks for the quick quote tip, I hadn't thought about doing that. I think, in order to keep the 'worst-case scenario' around our target, we should keep the maximum bid price at 145. Any other questions? Link to comment
