grannun Posted April 16, 2016 Report Posted April 16, 2016 I'm trying to grab one of the 4.5*+ in Calistoga, St Helena Area for 5/3 - 5/4 for a special getaway The actual rates are anywhere from $600 - $1500. Hotwire is showing 2x 4.5* for 456 & 503. If I were to try to bid on priceline, what would be a reasonable bid strategy and what do you think the best price I could get would be? Thanks!
thereuare Posted April 16, 2016 Report Posted April 16, 2016 Welcome to BetterBidding! If bidding on PRICELINE what would be your maximum bid? Are you willing to spend $400+ on a hotel for this trip? Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. grannun Posted April 16, 2016 Author Report Posted April 16, 2016 Of course I will use the links to purchase! $400 is about as high as I would want to go. Also, what about the timing of bidding? Would there be a great benefit to doing it last minute (which I am willing to do)
thereuare Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 There is no way to know if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your trip. However, if all 4.5* and higher rated hotels are going for $600+, if you could get lucky and land one for up to $400, that would seem like a very nice deal, so i don't see any harm in starting the bidding now. If you're ready to try now, when bidding 4.5* in this region you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 4.5* Calistoga... Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $250, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $300, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $325, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $340, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $350, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $360, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $370, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $380, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $390, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $395, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $400 Any questions feel free to ask (especially confirming your re-bid zones if you're new to the subject) Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
grannun Posted April 17, 2016 Author Report Posted April 17, 2016 After reading through the re-bid process, I understand how you're getting 11 re-bid zones, but aren't there more if you include combinations? For example, if I want zone A, then I try A + B, then A + C, can't I also try A + B + C? Or does that not work?
thereuare Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 You could do that, but i think your chances are fairly low at the $400 price point, and if using the full permutation bidding it would take a very long time to bid... using the strategy above i think your 'worst case scenario' is a $9 overbid... do you want to take an extra 1-2 hours to bid in order to potentially save $9?
