Hotwire Hotel: 5* Las Vegas (Strip North) The Palazzo Resort Hotel and Casino

I've only ever used Priceline to bid on hotels, but now I am curious about the Express Deals offer they have (as well as Hotwire's Hot Rate). Which saves you more money: bidding, or opting for one of the "blind" buys with the price and description listed, but the hotel name hidden?

Here are my details:

5 star

On-strip (north, south, center)

April 22-25

In-hotel casino is not important

From what I can tell, the 5 stars via Express Deals and Hot Rate seem to be Trump (~$103 - North Strip, no casino), Palazzo (~$177 - North Strip, casino) and Vdara (~$145 - Center Strip, no casino). These are, of course, guesses.

So I guess, what I'm wondering is that given my guesses and options, is it more cost efficient to bid, or to book the "blind" deal outright?

Thanks,

Terra

To answer your question, bidding will usually result in the lowest price... PRICELINE EXPRESS and/or HOTWIRE are slightly more expensive.

Think of it in terms that with bidding you know nothing about the hotel you will receive, so it's more 'opaque'... whereas with PRICELINE EXPRESS and HOTWIRE you know a little more about the hotel (amenities, review ratings, etc) so it costs you a little more since you know a little more about the hotel.

The one caveat i will mention since you're looking at Las Vegas, is that if bidding at the 5* level you need to be willing to accept The Trump, which is slightly off-strip, not directly on it, even though it's in the Strip North zone.

There is no way to avoid a particular property when bidding. If you bid for a 5* in the North Strip (for example) you have to be willing to stay anywhere within the zone. If you want to avoid a particular property, I'd suggest instead looking at PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE.

Description:

- North Strip area all-suites hotel

- Fri, Apr 22 - Mon, Apr 25  1 Room, 2 Adults

- 95% recommended (697) Amazing!

Based on the hotel descriptions here, I thought this might be the Palazzo. It was.

Resort, Casino, Suite, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Free Parking, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking

Rack rate was $234. I paid $153 via HOTWIRE's Hot Rate option. I thought of bidding on PRICELINE to get a better deal but did not want to get stuck with The Trump (because it's off-strip, and well, because of other reasons as well).

Cost summary

- 3 nights Hot Rate® Hotel @ $153.00/night: $459.00

- Tax recovery charges & fees: $96.69

- Subtotal: $555.69

- Hotwire Total: $555.69

This does not include the resort fee, which is annoying but inevitable.

THANKS!

I am looking at an offer for $145 per night with the same description. Do you think this could also be the Palazzo?

This has one more review (698 rather than 697) than the original poster mentioned. Is this likely to be the Palazzo as well? I would so love to stay there!!

Thanks in advance!
