haisam10 Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Hi, Interested in a 4* (and above) in and around mid-town Manhattan (between Central Park and the Empire State Building area) from May 3 - May 7, 2016. Only desired amenity is free internet. Attempted bidding; unsuccessful at max of $120 CAD / night with total of about 7 zones selected. What is a realistic range for bidding for this time, area and star rating? Any other suggestions appreciated! Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please post to the board in US Dollars as it makes all rates on the site consistent and not subject to interpretation based upon future currency fluctuations. To avoid any confusion, please list which zones, by PRICELINE name, are acceptable for this stay. Did you include all of these zones in your previous bidding attempt(s)? Lastly, if bidding on PRICELINE, how do you intend to guarantee free internet? As well, if a hotel with Free Internet is $200/nite and a hotel that charges for internet is $150/nte, wouldn't it be better to purchase the $150/nite hotel and just pay for the internet access? (so is Free Internet really a requirement??) Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. haisam10 Posted March 22, 2016 Author Report Posted March 22, 2016 Thank you thereuare; you Bring up excellent points. My attempted bidding was unsuccessful at max of $90 USD / night with total of about 7 zones selected. Desired Zones in general order of preference (all were included in previous attempt): 1.Times Square - Theatre District 9. Empire State Building Area 3. Grand Central Terminal - UN 4. Rockefeller Center - Bryant Park 5. Madison Square Garden - Convention Area 2. Midtown East 7. Central Park South 6. Midtown West - Hell's Kitchen 21. Upper East Side 12. Upper West Side Your point on the free internet is also valid; although, when I was bidding yesterday, Priceline indicated a few guaranteed amenities while choosing the star level which included the internet
thereuare Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Sub-$100 for a 4 star hotel in NYC is not seen very often, but when it is seen, it is almost always during slow season (Jan - Feb) or an otherwise very slow nite (a solo Sunday nite)... whereas your dates above are duing the peak Spring season. At current prices you're likely looking in the $160-$180 area for a 4* hotel in one of the zones above. Let us know your thoughts in regards to increasing your budget, lowering your star rating, or how you'd would like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
